How to Raise a Pet Bass (DIY)

This is how to raise a pet bass of your own! Putting a bass in a native fish tank can be quite stressful at first for both you and your new fish, but with these simple steps, you can be on your way to feeding your bass for the first time! Now... often, people recommend getting baby largemouth bass rather than their larger counterparts, but as you can see with Benny, it doesn't really matter how big they are as long as they are given the proper care.

Update
Hydrilla is NOT a native plant to the US. Make sure not to reintroduce it to ponds or lakes in your area.
Update #2
The plants I have in my tank are actually coontail, NOT hydrilla. The two species look very similar, but after further research, the plants I bring in are native, unlike the invasive hydrilla.

    I don't have plants but I have bacteria that's good for the tank and fish but plants or any of that really isnt required and there is no way that filter is rated for 300 gallons because power filters arent rated that high and if that is a bio wheel that turns then those don't ever work to well so if its not a bio wheel and its a power filter then don't worry about it because that would be fine for that tank and u asked if u wanted to let u know if u left anything out yeah u need to test the water and have pH up and pH down to adjust your pH to around 7.0 to 7.4 for largemouth also its good to keep a heater and an all around plug in air pump to keep the water oxegenated 24\7 for proper health and growth of your fish and soon you will need a bigger tank of around 200 gallons because bass get big fast and get stressed and eventually die if the tank is to small and there isnt enough space also u can use aquarium salt to help gill functioning and eliminate diseases and heal cuts but other than that your fish looks good and you have a well made video keep up the great work man👍

    So I have a 55 gallon tank and I have 1 bass in it, and the bass is about 9 inches long. When should I move him to a bigger tank? Because I was originally supposed to get sunfish, but I ended up with a bass, and now I don’t know what to do😭 I had the bass over 2 months now. Would it just be safe if I release him back in the wild?

  • @FishingWithJames

    @FishingWithJames

    3 жыл бұрын

    You could release him into the wild, but it would have to be in private waters (depending on state). Here in texas you can't release them into a public body of water. And I would move him into a bigger tank pretty soon. He should be fine for now, but he's going to grow fast.

    Great video, but I have to point out one thing. Hydrilla is an invasive species to the US. It is not a native plant. I remember when I was a kid that lakes were free of hydrilla, then it spread quickly, and there were campaigns to remind boaters to clean their boats of it to prevent spread to other lakes. www.texasinvasives.org/plant_database/detail.php?symbol=HYVE3

    Thank you for the correction. That’s 100% on me. It’s in all of the ponds I fished so I just assumed. I’ll definitely correct myself in the description. Thanks again!

    What an informative comment, I never would have guessed that hydrilla was an invasive species. I really appreciate the value that this comment brings to the quality of the video.

    Me neither 😂 it’s really interesting to see how many lakes and ponds it’s in now.

    Tammy Onufreiczuk very very late update, but the plants I was talking about weren’t even hydrilla! 😂 come to find out that it was actually coontail. They look very familiar
