Here is my next video in the HOW-TO series, dealing with the new Racerstar F405 Wing Nano flight controller! It is a pretty little jewel, with WORKING bluetooth connectivity, which was a first for me, pretty compact size and decently light weight, and pretty much almost all of the functionality of the full sized F405 Wing. Only drawback I've been able to find here has been the filtering on the video power, which is not ideal as I've been able to see some interference from the motor on the DVR recordings, although it wasn't noticeable on the screen during the flight. I would hope they can address that without a major redesign, although it probably isn't an issue for this to be filtered additionally even now, certainly will give it a try soon! Otherwise, absolutely happy with the Nano, flashed with ArduPlane, it works just as well as my larger planes, but in a much more compact package, able to be installed in smaller planes!

    This is what rc flying is all about - the feeling of freedom! Love your videos, you inspired me to switch from multi-rotors to fixed wing, I have not looked back. Just waiting for the warmer weather so i can get out with my Volantex Ranger 2000, it's fitted with a Matek F765 running Arduplane. R9M radio gear (R9 slim), duel BN880 gps, Runcam split 4 with a AKK FX2 Dominator vtx, along with a Myfly Dream Telefly Tiny tracker module. All powered from home made LiOn packs - 4S 2P 6500mah. Can't wait to get back out there so I can do some great line of sight flying.😉😁😁

    Finally able to maiden fly my Drift / F405 Nano / Ardupilot setup in some reasonable weather. Worked fine straight away and was able to fly a fairly complex mission beautifully. I got a lot of help from watching your videos Nikola, so many thanks 🙏 This combination makes a great plane to take anywhere. Should of course say big thanks to all the people behind Ardupilot and Mission Planner for giving us this fantastic open source software.

    Great video. I like how you show all of your challenges instead of making it look like everything goes smoothly. Video issues can be so frustrating! The F-405 and F-765 have been my favorite FCs and this looks like a great option for small and light builds. I bet that Drift doesn’t cruise very fast. Yesterday I went out on a long range excursion with a tailwind (I knew better) and almost didn’t make it back due to the headwind. It wouldn’t take much of a headwind to doom that little Drift!

    Well... challenges are what makes things interesting and push things forward! :) As for the Drift... it can manage 50-60km/h with an above average throttle, which is OK! By estimation... in no wind conditions it can do 17-18kms out and back on the battery I have in it now, which is pretty OK for it! I've also had my fair share of downwind/headwind situations... including one from a few days ago! It is astonishing how I've lost the ability to get worried about these things anymore! :D :D :D :D :D

    Great review. Everything about this board has been a challenge (at least compared to the Matek 411 WSE). Bluetooth is awesome (that part was pretty straight forward. The board is super picky about how things are soldered. Are my solder skills the best, no, but they are good enough to solder on 16x16 stacks already install on a 4 inch quad or an AIO board on whoop. Your solder joints can be clean and smooth, pass a continuity test and still cause problems like the barometer stopping to work not not being able to flash the FC. Smart audio seems to be a problem as well. I can see how someone could short this board out if they weren't careful. I think maybe they tried to do too much with this board or maybe went too fast. Seems like there are a lot of people out there (some of the main influencers in the RC space that have had problems with this board). Such a shame, because when it came to all of the accessories that came with this board they really didn't skimp. Capacitor, XT 60 and XT30 connectors pre soldered with silicone wires, plenty of pens, servo wires, etc. Compare that with what you get with the Matek 411 WSE (which you only get the m2 screws to hold the board together). They didn't even take the time to make a good set of instructions or take high quality photos of the pins or how to connect multiple different types of receivers. That should have been an easy thing for them to. Hands down Matek wins out on the documentation side. Glad you had pretty good luck with it.

    I wish this flight controller had existed when I built my Drift as my first Arduplane setup - I used the Omnibus Nano v6.1 which works flawlessly, but the Bluetooth & off-board USB of the Racerstar would have been convenient. I had the same issue with the default PIDs, so I quickly switched into manual to land & followed the Ardupilot wiki to cut the gains in half before launching again to run an autotune, which then went fine. How is your CG? I had to add extra tail weight on mine, even though I don't have a Split camera or VTX at the front like you do? I'm using a home made 2S 18650 which is actually slightly lighter than the Zohd one. I don't understand how the plane would ever balance with the Zohd pack, a Split & a VTX in the front without adding quite a lot of weight to the tail & going way beyond the recommended maximum weight. Are you simply using a lighter LiPo battery rather than 18650?

  • @ArxangelRC

    @ArxangelRC

    3 жыл бұрын

    Actually I am using a 2S 18650 pack as well, and I have 10 grams of lead weights on the tail... and I'd say things are about as balanced as they can be, assuing the CG is a few mm forward of the markings, like many people suggest! Don't have the Split at the front right now, due to the cable issue, so nose is lighter, but am hoping to be able to put it back in when I get a new cable! Also, have been considering ways to move that antenna and possible the Vtx as well to be back somewhere, in the motor area... just so I can remove the weights from the tail... but haven't figured it out yet! :)

    My Drift has the R9 MM (which has a 'inverted s.port' pad) connected to serial 1 TX of the Omnibus Nano v6.1 with Arduplane, using SERIAL1_OPTIONS = 4 & SERIAL1_PROTOCOL = 10. For the R9 Mini which only has 'regular' s.port you might be able to make it work by additionally setting the InvertTX option in the relevant SERIALx_OPTIONS bitmask.
