How to Quickly Secure Any Pegboard Hook With A Paper-Clip, Keep All Pegboard Hooks From Falling Out!
I was really tired of pegboard hooks falling out every time I took a tool off the wall a little too quickly or at the wrong angle. After a little thought into what I could do to fix this, I came up with this quick and easy hack using paper clips. I hope this will be of good use to you and saves you much headache like it did me.
Using a paper clip is the cheapest, quickest, and possibly the easiest way to lock/secure any pegboard hook from falling out.
Most store bought pegboard-hook-locks take up two adjacent holes and are comparably more expensive when compared to paper clips. This hack allows pegboard hooks to be placed from left-to-right right next to each other.
Any type of hook can be locked with paper clips and all this hack requires are:
1. a paper clip that is about the same length as the distance between the pegboard holes
2. a vacant hole beneath the pegboard hook that one is trying to secure
3. some clearance behind the pegboard so paper clip can be inserted into the hole.
Prepare the paper clip by bending the inner lobe out to make a 90 degree angle.
Flare out the inner lobe of the paperclip by bending it outward.
Place the pegboard hook to the desired location.
Hook the larger lobe of the paperclip over the pegboard hook and insert the flared out smaller lobe of the paperclip into the hole below the pegboard hook until it "clicks".
The pegboard hook is locked!
A paper clip has just enough hooking force to prevent the pegboard hook from falling out but not enough to make it a permanent fixture. To adjust the pegboard hook, the paperclip lock can be removed with a pair of pliers.
To increase the locking force of the pegboard hook, two paperclips can be used for one pegboard hook and threaded through the same hole.

Your vigorous testing is appreciated and simulates actual use. Thanks for sharing
I love the abuse used to test the utilization of the paperclip. So extra but goes to show how well of an idea it is. Best and cheapest option I've found online. tY

Oh my gosh...I just found this video because I have this problem and I haven't laughed this hard in a long time!! Thank you for the hack.. and laugh!!😂
I think "pegboard hook stress" is a medical condition suffered by thousands of us. Loved your video; it captures the illness in all its glory, complete with an inexpensive cure!

You made me laugh, I needed that.
Brilliant - so simple too! I did the exact same rage quit with my hooks this morning... Now hunting for paper clips...
Jimmy, this is frickin genius! I'm getting out of bed RIGHT NOW to fix my frickin pegboard! Thank you 😄
That's amazing! This is my first time using a pegboard and I was excited about organizing my tools and then the pegs kept falling out! I didn't want to buy new pegs and I thought, "There's gotta be a hack that someone came up with," and found your video. The way you aggressively test whether it's secure no matter how roughly you pull the tools out made me excited about organizing my tools again. Plus, I have hundreds of paperclips going unused. Two birds with one stone! Thanks for sharing.

glad I could help. May your tool wall be amazing!
Tried it. Worked better on straight hooks vs. the tool holders. Took additional manipulation to get the bottom part to stay in the hole. On some, I flipped the paper clip so the smaller portion was on top. On some I hooked it two holes down to get it to hold better. Works okay, but probably not much better than the black plastic fasteners. We’ll see how long they last.
You're a genius. I was sooo frustrated and had just decided to rip out all my pegboards and replace with magnet strips. Thank you so much.
You sir, are a genius! Thanks for sharing this simple but effective trick!
Hello bro you're true Hero for us Thankyou for the tutorial 👍👍👍👍
I'm glad you were having the same problem as me in the beginning. This video and comment thread is like a recovery help group.
My hero!!! I have wrestled with these pesky pegs for too long - this is genius!!!
Loved it! I laughed out loud at your violent abuse of the hooks (for demonstration purposes only!)
Thanks Jimmy. Gonna get some paper clips at Wally World tomorrow. This has been driving me nuts!!!
Faaaabulous! My stress just went waaay down! Thanks Jimmy!
so simple yet genius!
I like that they are not permanent. I have even triedt to use adhesive caulk but it fails because of the changes in the temperature in my garage and the coating on the board. I like your real world testing method. 👍
Best solutions are simple ones. Thank you
Great cheap idea and it was funny!!!
Hooray! Great idea.
Perfect! Thanks for the simple explanation and the funny, real-world testing demonstration! 🤣
Thank you this was fast and effective
This is one of the best hacks ever!
I had just about given up!!! Until your video….thanks!

omg haha best vid in awhile!
Awesome
Particle and well tested! Lol
We would be friends in real life. Bless you sir
That was hilarious well done, yes nothing like peg board to drive you Bananas ! lol Cheers!
nice hack. professionally made peg locks take up 2 empty holes, so this more efficient, if a bit uglier

Thanks! I agree it is kinda unsightly. tolerable when tool is mounted.
Upvote for the intro alone!
Thanks, mine were falling off
Awesome video yet some parts funny.
I use a staple gun to hold the peg in place. Want to move it? Just use the peg to pull it out.
Hahahaha... The frustration...
I like it but it looks messy😊
Funny video lol
The schizoid aspect made my day better.
You silly!
1/4" silicone/rubber tubing is better. push in tubing (1/4" inch play per side), don't cut tubing until desired length in (need tube for fanagling it in:). It works like majico! Have a nice day. Oh, no need to order anything! it's sold in all ACE/H.D/fish stores etc...If crazy or insane...Hot glue it in place, either way, it works! WD40 is fun if probs occur. Just for laughs...You got to lube it, lube it. Really say's me?...Not :) Oh...it's only $5-7 for yards of it.
LOL
Or just buy the correct size hooks (you need 1/4"!)
Dude just use the correct 1/4" size hooks that fit that pegboard and that won't happen.

Ah man i didn't even know thicker ones existed. I'm planning to make another pegboard bench and I'll definitely look get a 1/4" kit.

I bought a set of 1/4" hooks, they are slightly better than 1/8" but still fall out. Problem still remains without locks.

@@LockeLaboratory I also used 1/4" sized hooks for my pegboard, and have been having the same issue. I get that reducing the space between the hardware and the hole may seem like a simple solution, but guess what Steve?? lol. I just bought a pack of plastic peg locks, but when I run out, I'll definitely try your paperclip technique!

@@unclebadger597 if you buy the right board and pegs, no it doesn't. If you buy shit from the dollar store it probably does.
Comical
No, this is not a good solution. The clip is ugly, flimsy, and occupies the space where the tool should hang. It looks dreadful and messy, not neat. A creative idea, but not a solution. I am sick of the price gouging on flimsy junk that is sold as a retainer clip. You have two solutions: Use hot glue gun to keep retainers glued in place, or build a plywood tool hanging board with custom storage for all tools. No more pegboard! The advantage is, you can build in sections so it is modular and easy to move along with you, or as a folding cabinet - no dust, layers of walls inside for compact storage.
