How to Publish Games with a Grassroots Approach | Joe Bragg

Ойындар

In this episode, Joe Bragg, founder of the indie publishing company Meek Heroes Gaming, discusses the grassroots approach he's taking to building his publishing company. We chat about why this approach makes sense for a lot of people, the pros and cons of not using crowdfunding, how to build a community from the ground up, and a whole lot more.
I also dive into the slightly different approach my own publishing company is planning to take in 2024, so hopefully this episode gives you lots to think about if you're interested in publishing games.

I listened to this podcast a couple days ago. Took me a good second to realize I just listened to this, but it's honestly my favorite episode that I didn't mind listening to it again. There's a good chance I will listen to this again...again.

3 months pre-order to table sounds fantastic. I think that's what I love about Allplay's recent kickstarters of 6 month delivery time.

Hey there, working on my first boardgame for the last 5 years (on the side) and an very thankfull for this great dialog - honestly, for this channel overall! Boardgamedesigning is certainly a very time intensive and complicated process and I wish I would have found this (and similar) channel sooner. Went through a lot of trial and error... Still am.

@NotUnymous I'm not sure I qualify as an authoritative source, since I am the author of many unpublished games... But try to work on many projects from the get go! I worked on my first boardgame for years before realizing it had bad foundations. It really hurt realizing all that time was "wasted", to the point of robbing me of my will to design. Thankfully, I recovered, but when you have only one baby, it really sucks if it is not liked. Statistically, only a small percentage of anyone's projects will be succesful, let alone their first. Remember, designing games is fun! I encourage you to do just that 😉 Ps. English is not my first language, my apologies for any errors

I would love a video that explains in depth how to produce a prototype board game. I'm working on my first game now and don't have a clue. There's up to 4 players. Each player has 6 small house pieces, 3 larger building pieces, 6 house characters, 15 larger building characters, 15 attacking characters, and there's 100 cards made up of 4 different kinds of cards (25 each), theres 3 red dice and 3 white dice and 1 black dice, maybe a board, and then the box. That's just an example. Where do I go to have all that made and shipped to me? How would I know what the dimensions need to be? How would I know the file formats for the character and building pieces to be created? All of that. With specifics on the names of the websites to go to and how much all of it would cost if you did the design work yourself or if you hired a designer. That would all be super helpful in a video.
