Of all the videos I've watched, this one has given me absolute clarity on what a sucker is, sun leaves, leaders, and how to perfectly prune a single leader tomato plant. Thanks for taking the time to make this very informative video. Very grateful.

Until this video I never heard of a sun leaf😮. I'm new at this and my few plants are still juveniles. So I only pruned one time so no harm no foul. Just goes to show not to go with 1 source of info. Thanks for this video
I love this pruning video. It's quite possibly the clearest instruction video on the topic. Sometimes I rewatch it when I'm craving to be in the garden. Happy gardening, all!
Best educational video on tomato pruning I've ever seen. Not many people know, or understand this principle. You're a terrific instructor. Thank you for sharing your knowledge & talent.
As a first time gardener, I have been watching a lot of how to videos on grooming my tomato plants! this video by far is the best i've seen. I will definitely be using your method for now on!
I love it that you mentioned Fibonacci. I was not aware of that relationship in tomato plants. You can see the same spiral in nature in the same proportions in these examples; look at a pine cone from the narrow tip, sunflowers, photo of a hurricane, water flowing down the drain in a sink, a nautilus sea shell, and many more!

Vihart has a really great trio of videos (Doodling in Math: Spirals, Fibonacci, and Being a Plant) about this phenomenon and why/how it happens, particularly in plants!
Been getting more interested in backyard gardening and this is the first time I’ve seen diagonal trellis lines. That’s smart as it gives a longer distance versus straight up and down. Might have to try that once my tomatoes are at that stage
Oh boy, this is a complete guide if I ever saw one. Killing it Steven, thanks for what you do!

Yes Steven is killing it !
I have always been confused about removing suckers. Thank you for being so clear about so much. I get it!
This was the best instruction I have received in identifying suckers and exactly how to prune tomatoes. Thanks for this.
Best breakdown I’ve ever seen! You care about the information of the plant and wisdom it has to offer...not just yield or dominating a plant. Def gonna back up my gardening with this page 🙏🏽
Hand down the most useful and informative video I have ever watched on tomato pruning! Great job mate, I'll be sure to pass the link on.
Five years after filming and its still awesome. Ive always pruned every single stem in the crotch thinking I was doung the right thing. Triple thank you for teaching me how very wrong I've been.
Of all the tomato pruning videos I've watched...way too many... this is the absolute most informative. I learned so much because you made it very clear. Thank you!
The best KZread I’ve found in pruning tomatoes!! Thank you!
I lost you and your channel fo over a year. I am sooooo happy I found you again. Best eva!!!
Am a beginner here and I see this video as a complete guide. Thanks a lot.
Hands down, best tomato growing tutorial on the Internet. Cheers dude!
In fact, you've made a very good video explaining the "suckers". Hats off...
Among all the videos I watched about tomato pruning, I am really leaning the true techniques from this gentleman. Thank you for sharing
This is by far the best video I have seen on tomato pruning! It’s clear you have so much knowledge - thanks for sharing it with us!!
Absolutely the best pruning video I’ve watched! Thank you very much, learned some new pruning techniques and how to identify what to prune.
Thanks for this detailed and thoughtful video. Especially finding the leader. I often have to remind myself to take a moment before I start hacking at a plant. I'm constantly researching and observing my plants as they grow.
Wow, you're a great teacher, all the vital information without over-explaining the simple stuff - which is such a common mistake. Great reiteration too. Looking forward to our upcoming tomato season (southern hemisphere). Thanks!
This is the best tomato pruning video I have ever watched - I have total clarity and could prune with confidence now!
This is the video I have been searching for a long time. I started planting tomatoes since one month ago and most of other videos talked a lot about pruning suckers but never explained, at least not as explicitly as you did, what suckers are. Thanks so much for making such a informative video and even giving out quizzes after explaining.
Exceptionally clear. Far more helpful detail than any of the many tomato pruning videos I have watched. Thanks!
This video is WONDERFUL. Of all such videos on tomato pruning I've seen this is BY FAR THE BEST. Total clarity on how the plant grows. I can now look at my tomato plants, look along the main leader saying, "sunleaf, sunleaf, fruit cluster" and so on. I love that I now know that fruit clusters only grow on a leader! (which might be also on a sucker). Who knew! I love the close filming, and the knowledge that I now have. Absolutely brilliant. Thankyou!
this is single handedly the most comprehensive video I've been able to find covering indeterminate tomato care. maybe it just makes sense to the way my mind works, but it did just that. . .made sense. I wish there were more KZreadrs out there making gardening videos like this with content for beginners that need more detailed information than the average beginner. Pretty annoyed it took so many repetitive searches, rephrasing similar search terms countless times in order to find this. Big "preesh" from all of the Me's out there iso videos like these!
I want to thank you for the wonderful and informative information. My wife and I did our tomatoes in the garden as you have shown and it was wonderful. My friends and family never seen tomato plants that looked like these or as large. We have plants as large as 16 feet long and BIG tomatoes very healthy. I cannot thank you enough.
After watching about 17 videos trying to completely understand how to correctly prune my tomatoes, I found you and now am confident I do in fact truly understand....thank you!
Stumbled on your site by accident. Really learned a lot. Your visuals for identifying and pruning tomatoes were super helpful. I knew about planting tomatoes deeper in the soil but not the cucumbers. I also like the idea of planting herbs and onions in between since you prune lower leaves off thus giving them more room to grow up . I especially like how you pointed outthe differences between the look of the leaves and where they were found on the plant. I'll made sure to subscribe to your site as I REALLY need help identifying plants. When he was alive my husband NEVER let me into the garden until the seedlings were at least 6 inches tall and he had removed all the weeds. I tended to keep the weeds and pull the seedlings much to his dismay.
im so into your channel now!! you do such a lovely job and you dont add a bunch of noise that I dont care about. your so methodical. its perfect thank you. I never once fast forwarded through your video because i felt every thing you said was supporting the point. a 29min video where all of it was beneficial?!! on youtube!! BRAVO!! love you :)
The best and most informative video on tomato pruning I have seen so far!! Thanks so much for your expertise! I will definitely add this to my library and keep for future reference!!
He’s so much for this lesson was growing tomato plants. For the last couple years and a friend kept try to explain I needed to cut back the tomato plant to get bigger fruits! I couldn’t figure out what he was saying because he wasn’t too clear with his broken Russian/English.Each year he was saying I should be getting bigger tomatoes if I cut them back that Inhad too much going on in the pot. There should be only one plant in pot! Now I under what he was trying to explain! Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience and Knowledge in a Clear slow manner! Will be pruning now! Thank you 🙏 I subscribed and am looking forward to seeing your others videos!
Awesome video - such a thorough explanation of how to identify suckers and how to prune the plants. Thank you!
Thank you. You are very generous. God bless you and keep your beautiful garden thriving. I appreciate it 🦁
Amazing video! Thank you for all of the detail. I’m so glad I found this video, I feel way more confident about pruning my tomatoes this year now
Thank you so much for being so informative and showing exactly what to look for! As a new gardener I was super nervous about pruning and identifying suckers. I not only feel like I understand fully, but can also explain it to my kids.

Well done! That took a lot of mysteries I had about what to prune.
Awesome information as always. I liked how you made your explanation fairly simple so anyone can easily understand, and even using several visuals 😁
First time I've watched a how-to video without fast-forwarding. Informative and inspiring video for this novice.
Thanks! I like your straw underneath. I don't see that much used in other videos. Works great to avoid splash ups from soil and keep plants cool as well as retain and save water.
This is the single best video on this subject. Thanks for this very informative and professionally presented guide.
Hi Steven :D Thanks for the great info., as always. I'll be starting with my raised bed garden this year... with over 150 lineal feet of beds... You're 'on the mark' with your teaching style-- I heard this great bit of advice from a professional presenter: "Tell 'em what you're going to tell 'em" (Brief overview). "Tell 'em" (Give your presentation). "Tell 'em what you told 'em" (Brief recap) I will be tuning in again and again for your thoughtful and well-presented videos!
This is the best pruning video I have seen so far. Thanks.
Thank you. You’re a very good, patient instructor in growing tomatoes.
Great video! Exactly what I was looking for - you showed how to identify the main leaders and which stems to prune. I will be looking at you channel for more information on how to make my garden the best.
Hey ... everyone Moniee-Mon, is watching thanks for the info vedios keep doing what'cha do best God bless ya!.😇💖🙏
Thank you for the level of detail. This is invaluable education for home gardeners like myself.
Great information, and thanks for repeating several times...now I know the difference between the "bush" tomato and the indeterminate one. Thanks
Very helpful!Thorough and easy to follow. Thank you. Last year my tomatoes sprawled all over and now I understand why.
I've been looking for this info for weeks. I thought I should leave some of the suckers. I did not know they all could be pruned off. Awesome lesson! Thanks

Thank you for this video! It's helped me so much with our overgrown tomato plants! :)
Best tomato pruning video, very well explained! Thank you!
I had a tomato sprout in some compost in my back yard along with a ton of cantaloupe thanks Steven!
So needed this. Trying out single stemming this year and have topped off a few precious tomato plants. Sigh. Identifying the leader has been more difficult than I anticipated. The fail safe of fruiting cluster above off the main stem was what I needed.
Excellent instruction! Thanks so much, I think you just saved my tomato plants!
12:22.....LOL!!!! Thank you for the giggles and the awesome instruction.
Never knew it was so complicated. I grow them mainly for fun and have had great luck but figured i needed to prune didn't realize there is so much to it. Thanks hopefully i will get it done right.
Brilliant , I absolutely massacred my tomatoes 🍅 today and having found your video , I have realised I am not so far off and hopefully it’s not too late to get them back on track . Great helpful video . Thankyou 👍
Great info. I have learned a lot. Now I just got to put what I’ve learned into action. Have a great day. Linda in Jacksonville, Fl 🌻🌻🌻
I've 'buried' my tomato seedlings for the first time this year and it's worked better than I expected! I put them into a hole taller than the seedling and kept piling the dirt in as they grew taller. I didn't take off any of the leaves before doing it and even though I planted during a nearly 40c heatwave only one out of 30 odd plants died, I think it let the plants reabsorb the moisture and energy. Thanks for pointing out the suckers so well, I have heard they can be struck for another plant but I've never tried it.
This is great!! I need more plant friends like you
Never heard better explanation!! thanks for sharing!!
this is very informative I've learnt so much about suckers and main stems. thank you
Great job! Tons of useful information in simple terms and descriptions. Well done.
