How to protect your door from flooding with sand bags and Plastic Sheeting - Sealing Flood Barriers
Ғылым және технология
This begins with an example of how sandbags are stacked to protect a door from flooding without using plastic. The sandbags without the plastic in this example, would have allowed water to quickly leak inside the door. Sandbag walls without plastic can be expected to leak quite badly.
We then took the quick steps to use plastic sheeting and Gorilla Tape to effectively create a seal around the sandbag wall protecting the door and raise the level of protection.

Glad it was helpful! Feel free to call us if you can use feedback on any flood defenses you may be building whether they are from us or not. We are happy to help when we can!
Did you say fudge factor. Love it 🤣

This is great! Thank you. What type/size of plastic did you use?

We use 6mm plastic found at any hardware store
Thanks for the video! A flood this week got our new hot water tank in our cellar. Eventually, we're going to move the tank, but I'd like to try this if needed in the meantime. Did you just use the regular Black Gorilla Tape?

Yes, I use black Gorilla Tape. NOTE: It works the best if you heat it up like putting it on the dashboard of your car and blast it with the heater. This is particularly helpful in damp and cold situations and/or when you are trying to get it to stick to something that is dirty or gritty
Sooo could’t you skip the sandbags and just use the plastic and gorilla tape?

If I did not have sandbags, that is exactly what I would do!! Or, you could even do both! However, the sandbags are primarily there take the hydrostatic pressure of the water against the door whereas the plastic is there to make it water tight. Garage doors for example, will commonly experience structural failure after about 18"-24" of water against them due to the pressure of the flood water. If sandbags were in place, the weight of the sandbags keeps them in place and in turn keeps the water pressure off your door and protects it from failure.
sand bags should not be tied.. that is how the water gets in.. a sand bad should be laid on top of another untied bag side by side then repeat
