How to Propagate Peperomia: 2 Easy Methods
The humble peperomia plant is easy to grow and even easier to propagate! In this peperomia care video we'll walk through how to propagate peperomia from start to finish, using two methods: stem-tip cuttings and leaf-petiole cuttings.
If you want fast success and easy rooting, go with a stem tip cutting. This method works for all varieties: peperomia obtusifolia, peperomia prostrata, peperomia caperata, etc. It's an easy way to buy one plant and multiply it!

Leaf cuttings will definitely produce new growths. But you gonna have to wait in like forever, like 3-4 months forever to see new growth coming from each cutting 🤣 When I first started doing Peperomia propagation using leaf cutting I just don’t have the patience. But now I have to make sure that I’m propagating at least a hundred leaves of different Peperomia just so it’ll worth it when they all showing growths, again in 3-4 months. But I gotta say, there are Peperomias (like rubella, albovittata) that can produce new growth in a month sometimes less than a month using leaf cuttings.

The leaves do make new growth! I did water propagation in a little cup, with only the end inserted. I changed the water every few days until it had nice roots and then I planted it into some soil. It took a good while for me, but I had some extenuating circumstances that kept it from getting a proper home. Once I got a light for it, I began seeing growth and ever since it has just taken off with sprouting new growth around it. By far, the coolest thing ever!
Hi! I’ve propagated Peperomia argyreia (Watermelon Peperomia) and Peperomia caperata ‘Brasilia’ from leaf cuttings. Just put the leaves with the petioles into pottingsoil and water it in, keep moist. The result was cute babyplants within two months. 🌱

My original peperomia looked like a leaf was half in the soil, with a system coming out with it's own leaf. I thought it was curious, but since then it's grown into a huge plant that needs to be trimmed! Probably was a leaf cutting

I wish I could share a picture of what my plant looks like. Right now it has 4 little leaves cuz it’s still a baby. The leaf I used to propagate it with fell off but its babies are still alive. The mother plant where I got the leaf from got too tall so I had to cut the stems and reroot them in soil.

I found that both stem cuttings and leaf cuttings worked perfectly for my peperomia obtusifolia variegata. The leaf cuttings created new leaves even faster. :)

Hi there! I’m keen to know where the new shoots appear from leaf cuttings. From stem cuttings you can easily see new shoot growth but from leaf cuttings it’s hard to tell how the growth would form.

I have a peperomia obtusifolia that was given to me in 2003 and it only had 3 leaves on it as it was a cutting. It’s still alive and just HUGE. We have it in a terra cotta pot and we stake the branches to grow up and use ties to keep it upright. We have made 3 other plants from it with cuttings. It’s a beautiful, easy, resilient plant!

The propagation videos are very helpful. Love experimenting with cuttings. Big fan of my various types of peperomia. Video Suggestions: Most types of ferns and several begonias (Rex etc.) are the plants that kick my butt, despite growing surrounded by lots of plants and aquariums contributing humidity. I love propagation videos
When I propagate my peperomia, I just put a leaf with the entire petiole into water, wait for roots and baby plants and then plant in soil. And, yes, it takes a long, long time. I've only had one failure so far out of about six or so. Off topic question now - how do I remove hard water stains from leaves? Some of the garden centers in my area drench the entire plant from top to bottom and when it dries, it leaves ugly white marks.

Kinda late. But I dilute about 2 spoons of white vinegar in a cup of water and spray that to the leaves. Then just wipe them with a cloth and it's easier to clean than by just using water.
Would love more propagation videos 😁

I absolutely love peperomia I recently took a leaf just the leaf I did not cute it in half I just put the bottom of the leaf in soil and it did grow a brand new growth with leaves and everything I wish I knew how I could upload a picture to you to show you that it can be done like that
The leaves do produce new growth but it takes months. If your a hobbyist like me youll enjoy the wait and the satisfaction is always greater.🤗 For i am the vine and you are the branches 🙏🏻💙🙏🏿
I took a cutting with stem still on it and it's grown roots at the same rates as my cuttings without the stem. I also took cuttings from a very young peperomia because someone in my house dumped cleaner into it and it was dying. But the cuttings are doing great in a plastic container of fairly wet sphagnum moss in a shaded area outside.

Hi love the video! Keep em coming! 👍🏼 I was wondering what was is that greenish “powdering” looking substance on the first propagation method pot (9:30), I notice it on a few plants I bought recently... is it some sort of fertilizer?

Pepperomia happy bean and also the pepp piccolo. Mine are both dropping leaves.its November and 20 Celsius in my home so I'd like to know how to propagate these two plants as I love them both and want to have more in case I lose them. Love your vids.
It's been a very long time now, did your leaf cutting propagations grow into whole plants? Of just leaves with roots? Thanks!
How do you propagate a Ctenanthe in water? Or is it only in soil? Can you do a video on one? I love that your videos are straight forward and easy to follow
Love propagation videos, can you do a variety of philodendron please
I want to try this with my obtusifolia - especially since it's losing it's variegation, despite being in an east window. I noticed yours was as well. I'm hoping that new growth on a cutting will have the deep cream variegation that the original plant used to have.

thank you, it was useful. I also tried putting the stem in the soil from the beginning and YES, it started getting roots. anyway, thank you so much from Iran🙌
Not sure if I missed it, but how long did it end up taking for the leaf cutting to root? My peperomia got knocked over and lost a few leaves, so I'm trying propagating for the first time! Really hoping it works!
Thank you! It’s funny that you said “layman’s botanical knowledge.” You’re so knowledgeable, I thought you’re actually a botanist.
I know this is old but thanks for this! Its very helpful. Also I would love to know if you made your potting station or bought it like that? I'm guessing you made it! It's so clever! Whenever I pot up my plants I make a mess & so much soil is wasted. I will have to make something like this!
I love propagating videos, so for me the more the better! I'm also curious to know what changes you see in the parent plan. Do you get a new flux of growth, does the stem harvested show signs of branching out, do you get new growth from the base? My obtusifolia is also growing like your mother plant, along a straight line. I do want to trim it back and possibly add the rooted cuttings back to the pot to give a more rounded look... Might wait for early spring though, not much growth happening right now 😕
@epicgardening

New growth will typically come out of the node right below the node you cut, which is happening to all of the plants that I took cuttings of in this video!
Hi , thank you for youe video , my pepromia plant turned brown and died, tried to save a leaf so i cut it and put it in water , i noticed its getting brown too. Is the reason too much water or my plant it just sick?
Leaf cuttings will definitely produce new growths. But you gonna have to wait in like forever, like 3-4 months forever to see new growth coming from each cutting 🤣 When I first started doing Peperomia propagation using leaf cutting I just don’t have the patience. But now I have to make sure that I’m propagating at least a hundred leaves of different Peperomia just so it’ll worth it when they all showing growths, again in 3-4 months. But I gotta say, there are Peperomias (like rubella, albovittata) that can produce new growth in a month sometimes less than a month using leaf cuttings.
Leaf propagation will eventually provide a new plant. I just had a new plant start from one. It takes a long time for it to happen. But, if you don’t mind the wait, it will work.
Thanks for this video! In which season can we propogate this peperomia?
