Yes! This message needs to get out there more. No wet sticks. Don't buy em; don't sell em. I did the same exact thing with a rehab. Leaf party is becoming a beautiful plant. The 3 single node sticks rotted in green house conditions-moss, water with an airstone and only the aerial root submerged and leca. Have i grown my own wetsticks? Plenty of times, but more die and they're usually not monstera.

I agree! I have bought a set of wetsticks last summer, and none of them made it. I do still grow out my own wetsticks just for fun, but I will never again spend money on wetsticks.

Have enjoyed many of your videos. Very nice to see someone who actually "knows" plants as to the SO MANY people that pretend to know but are actually just regurgitating info they got online.

You did a really thorough job with this one, I love seeing the progress! As I was going to ask about rooting hormone, you brought it up :) It would have been cool to see you dip one of those single nodes to see if it would be successful. I've been experimenting with different cuttings (house plants, trees) and how they react to it. Very rewarding summer activity and my neighbor is happy to receive some free plants 😊

Thanks for sharing all your tips with us, Nick! I tend to air layer my Monstera Deliciosa Albo Variegata "cuttings" before actually cutting them, which has given me a 100% success rate so far. I have two cuttings currently putting out new leaves after being planted in their first planter :) Love trying different methods of propagation - these little experiments teach me so much, I feel ;-)

1:50: I wish more knowledgeable plant vloggers would make vlogs talking about plant anatomy. As you are here, going into detail to talk about the parts of our plants. Especially why the parts are essential to our plant, what the different areas are called, and what those areas might look like on different types of plants.

My Monstera was happier when I potted in a ceramic pot, doesn't get too dried out🌱😉💚 love this format💚💚💚🌱

So happy to see this video today as I'm chopping and propping some of my own plants! Hey is that giant bin you're using a litter box? If so that's hilarious but honestly it's perfect for this purpose.

Couple things I’ve found in home settings that you could consider.. I’ve found anytime I cut the root back indoors it has led to much higher rot rate. Although growers regularly do this in greenhouse settings, in home setting it just creates an extra cut to allow rot, vs leaving the root whole for new roots to grow from. Also with cutting the extra internode off.. I’ve found it actually helps to leave the long internode on leafless cuttings to give some wiggle room for rot, allowing you extra space to trim rot and still get some new growth before the rot reaches the growth bud. Also, even with leafless nodes, if there’s an inch or more of air root ive had great success with using a container with a small opening or water prop container, submerging half the air root in water.. I’ve used beer bottles as you can fill the water to the halfway mark of the root and rest the node on the top allowing the node not to touch the water. Stick them in a bright warm window and I have about 90% or higher success rate! Definitely do not cut the air roots, especially if you are going to prop in anything but water. :)

Hi Nick, thanks for the great videos question, how wet do you keep the soil when you put a wet stick propagation in soil I always keep sphagnum moss damp, but I never know how wet to keep soil. Thanks again.

Hi Nick, do you ever add pothos when you do water propagations? I've heard that helps promote growth in other plants.

Why not use the rooting hormone? As an experiment against the cinnamon. I swear by rooting hormone. I put that shit on everything (plant related). lol I do dip a fresh cut in it and then let it set aside for like 30mins-1hr before popping it in soil spag or whatever. It’s the same idea as letting a succulent callous but being an aroid a lot short time. But I very very rarely ever have a rot situation, I had a healthy green rootless cutting stay alive for 2months before it ever rooted. Now it’s rooted and fine. Lol 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ just ideas.
