How to Pronounce: Around the Corner

Hello! I'm John Russell.
Let's continue our exploration of common words, phrases, and questions in American English.
In recent lessons, we learned about giving people directions - turning left, right, or continuing straight ahead.
Today, we will pay careful attention to a common way to say something is near.
"around the corner."
We often say "around the corner" when we are near the corner of a street. You could say this when you are in a car or walking on the street.
For example, if you are walking down the street and ask someone where the train station is, they might say,
"It's just around the corner."
We can improve our pronunciation of the expression by clapping on the part of the word that has primary stress. That is, we can clap on the word that we need to say stronger or more forcefully.
Let's start with "around." Repeat after me, and be sure to clap.
/əˈraʊnd/
around
around
around
Now let's work on "corner." Repeat after me:
/ˈkoɚnɚ/
corner
corner
corner
Let's put it all together:
Around the corner
around the corner
around the corner
Also note that the word “around” has two different vowel sounds.
That's all for today! Keep up the good work!
