    Heck yeah... that UV5r is easy to throw in a bag with an extra battery and a snubby ABREE or Diamond antenna..... and a Nagoya for the big distances.... and still spend less than $50... They are handy little radios. Plus you can listen to music on the FM radio and it will interrupt if the channel you're monitoring becomes active.

    You’re a savior man! We’ve been looking for “legal” channels to use walkie talkie with our UV-5R radios we picked up for our airsoft group and troop camps. But we’re not going to force parents and 30 guys to get licenses just to use radios once or twice a year for a couple hours. Just the video we’ve been looking for for the last month. There is a huge elitist attitude in this community. A lot of guys act like their licenses make them gods on earth and refuse to help new guys out with info lol

    This is just an opinion: "NOT legal advice".... People, BUY the BF 5R, and whatever HAM band transceivers you like.. Do a LITTLE bit of research (Radio Reference (website)) to see what frequencies are being used in your area / the area you are wanting to communicate in, and don't use any of the known / used freqs. There is a HUGE amount of unused feqs in the HAM band! NOBODY is going to mess with any of you... Do you see a single question @ Amazon checkout which requires you to input your HAM lic/cert info?? Yes, and NO... Nobody will know you are on the band unless you call the FCC and turn yourself in.. AND, it IS doubtful they would even send someone to monitor it even IF you gave them the dates, time and maybe even the address you were transmitting from. HAM has its uses, especially in real emergencies... However, there aren't just 40 channels like in a CB unit, or the walkie talkies that are popular.. You're welcome to GTS it if you doubt what I am saying. With all of the digital communications (online and off) today, HAM is mostly dying. ALL you need to do is to tune into the web streams of countless HAM repeaters / ham clubs to realize this. Sometimes, there isn't even a reply to the callouts. I will NEVER sell my handhelds, but if the "apocalypse" were to hit, and we lost power and sunlight (for solar battery backups) the true LONG range HAM stations will be DOWN soon thereafter. The "elitists" are part of the problem with HAM.. Yes, they dumbed it down so you don't have to do morse code fany longer to get your 'transmission permit'.. HOWEVER, I was listening in on the net when Hurricane Ian hit, and I was truly DISGUSTED at the old timers talking crap to people who were trying to ID, were scared and missing (breaking up) the info, and getting ADMONISHED for the way they were transmitting / communicating. For any of you "old timers" who may read this. Get current with the barriers to entry. Otherwise, you will simply be a nice (and legit) page in the history books. Massive amounts of GEO and LEO Satellites are rendering HAM useless, especially for SARS.

    I love your videos. Thank you for taking your time to keep us informed and entertained. I commented this on your last video but It had been up for a bit. I think your fans would also like to see the UV-5R be a star. Totally off topic, but I just watched "Fate of the Furious" for the 1st time since getting into ham....I mean GMRS radios. I know your passion for the UV-5R. That's what the team uses. There is a whole rack of them at 1:09:12....and they all have the flashlight on! But nobody ever licks one, which would be great. Keep up the great videos! Has anyone else noticed this in the movie?

    I just purchased my first UV-5R after watching many of your videos (which I love). Came in today and the battery charger just flashes red and green when it’s plugged in, with it without the radio in it. I reached out to the company and they said, “This is not a model we sell or support.” Juusssst Lovely.

    PS I also plan on setting up some portable simplex repeaters. I’m setting up those to be very portable . I’m not using a 12volt battery to power them just using the AA or AAA batteries that the simplex repeater is set up for. That way all I have to do is deploy the repeater in areas that we are and need them.

    I enjoy your videos, they're very informative and fun to watch. Question though.......It appears the GMRS frequencies have 7 digits, but the UV 5R appears to only accept 6. It looks like you dropped off the zero in the video for GMRS Channel 16 when entering. If I were to want to "listen" to a different channel on a UV5R, would I drop the last numeric value on that one as well to get to a length of 6 numbers? Thanks

  • @parallelcircuit

    @parallelcircuit

    2 жыл бұрын

    This actually isn't a problem at all. In the case mentioned, the trailing zero doesn't actually do anything, 462.5750 is the same as 462.575, just like 1 1/2 can be written 1.5 or 1.50. For other channels, say Channel 8 which is 467.5625, if you type in 467.562 into you UV-5R you'll see a little tiny 5 show up after the frequency. that's because in this frequency band the radio is programmed to go in steps of 2.5k(560, 5625, 565, 5675, 570). This is fairly standard to keep interference between channels to a minimum.

    Thanks for that -- that was the exact question I came here to answer. I have the gmrs channels programmed on my BF radios through CHIRP, where you can enter the 500 Hz digit, but I wasn't sure how to get there from the keypad. Makes sense, if you have it set to step by 2.5Hz, there wouldn't be a xxx.xx20 MHz frequency on the band.
