    One item he glossed over is menu item #14. You noticed that it had ENG shown. VERY important if you happen to want to use menu item #40 to reset your radio. All menu items revert to CHINESE. You have to go to item #14 to change menu item back to ENG (English). I learned this the hard way.

    Hi, I have just bought a set of these radios. We live in Spain and basically want to be able to use them over distance should the need arise. Currently they work well but only over a few hundred feet. To say I am green regarding using these is an overstatement, even your great video lost me frequently. Is there a simple method to increase the distance over which these would work. heres hopeing,,, thank you,

    If you get this radio do yourself a favor and get the USB cable as well and download Chirp. It makes setting your channel memory way faster and easier, also a few things you can't even do through the keypad. It'll also let you pull lists of repeaters for an area and easily add them automagically with all the correct values filled in (including station names instead of just freq).

    +David Amundsen Hi David. I have just tried this and can do it. Change the steps to 2.5kHz, then put in 476.440, then press the down arrow and you will see 476.437 with a very small 5 to the right of the 476.437. Good luck.

  • @EdEditz

    @EdEditz

    5 жыл бұрын

    The repeater offset is an other word for the transmit frequency. The frequency you have to transmit on for the repeater to receive you. Sometimes the RX and TX frequencies are given and other times the RX and an offset frequency are given. You simply subtract or add the offset frequency to the receive frequency and that is the transmit frequency.

    I think you can program them for UHF CB, if that's what you're asking... but they aren't approved under the class CB licence. So, they will work but technically it's illegal to use them.

    It's a while since I played around with this radio, but I just took it to work and a colleague made mine a clone of his. He just used a program called CHIRP I believe to suck the program out of his radio and blow it into mine. Give it a Google as it's a popular radio there's bound to be lots of info out there.

    CHIRP is great -I use it for my “Baofeng UV5R+PLUS” and TYT TH-9800. Same cable. Chirp is perpetually in Beta. There are constant updates. You can set up your own list of frequencies, offsets, names,etc in Excel and export it to file on pc the import to chirp. Upload your radio settings first to get the column format and save, then open that in excel -and have fun. ZL3AXL

    If you have your Display as NAME, press the top right button - VFO/MR , this will change to the FREQUENCY for the aforementioned Names. Then press the BAND button and the frequency changes between VHF and UHF. This can be for inputing a one off frequency not normally saved. Eg when roaming in a different region. ZL3AXL :)

    That would depend on where you are. In big cities you could hear radio hams, CB operators, utility companies, ambulance and fire services, but not police. If you were near the coast you could hear VHF marine radio. If you're in a rural area you'll probably hear very little if anything at all.
