    It might be cheaper this way if you do a lot of casting. But you can also just send files directly to casters and they'll print and cast them for you. Then you dont gotta buy a printer and resin or anything.

    @@geertje0105 depending on what’s used, it can be very expensive. Most good casting companies will use commercial printers that run specific resin with a super high wax content, that’s really expensive. I seen in another video you said for more detailed prints I would I have to take it to a jeweler. Eventually I want to get into being able to print, cast, benching, set diamonds, and polish again all by myself. Please send advice. • @RRSF09

    @RRSF09

    4 ай бұрын

    This is a bit misleading - casting houses have overhead that requires more than a couple of bucks over spot for casting. First off, no one is buying metal at spot - if you buy pre-alloyed metal you are going to pay around 10% over, then you have shipping and insurance costs + rent + labor + utilities + taxes + profits and there is no one who is casting at a couple of dollars over spot that is doing a good job and following best practices around disposal of waste, OSHA compliance etc. Another thing is that if you get a caster that just batches your castings with a bunch of other pieces to cast at a low price then they are going to cast your flask at a temperature and metal temperature that will guarantee that the thinnest pieces fill, and if your parts are heavier you are going to see issues with casting quality (porosity primarily) that will affect your final product. As I've been in jewelry manufacturing for over 45 years I can assure you that you get what you pay for. Cheapest doesn't always end up being the most profitable.

    not entirely , if you mold the pieces the wax will cost around 20 dollars per kilogram , the resin costs 50 to a 100 per kg ,both will kind of give you the same ammount of wax models , which are enough to make about 10 kilograms worth of 18k gold , basically theyre both cheap , however theres cons to both , molding can be faster but it requires more work , when printing you just click the button and wait , but after it has done printing , you will have to remove the support which will be a pain to do ,as a jeweler i suggest molding if youre doing small quantities , if you plan on making 5 trees plus daily , get yourself a big 3d printer and print them all at once

    Hey man, every single place I call tried to charge $20 over the spot price per gram. Not $1.50. What should I do?

    Either deal with them in person or learn to cast and do the work. Regardless, using a caster won’t keep you in business long unless you quickly convert to having your own employees cast and finish for you.

    Living in the bay area, looking for gold casters and polishers and have yet to find anyone. That is the sole purpose that kept me away from getting into jewelry. Can someone point me in the right direction? only ppl offering it are just offering it if you're a customer and plan to buy the full piece

    With $1k you can make something really big out of silver, or something respectable out of 10-18k gold. It’s all about weight and how much you can actually do yourself in the jewelry making process. If you can run prints, do your own casting, finishing, stone setting, and marketing, everything is cheaper. But it takes years to become a genuinely skilled jeweler instead of a glorified middle man.
