How to Prevent this #2 Tomato Seed Starting Mistake - Germination & Lighting: Two Minute TRG Tips

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

A bit longer than 2 minutes as I added some extra lighting information. You don't want leggy, tall, spindly seedlings for your tomato transplants and other seed starts. The issue occurs when your seeds germinate and don't get enough light over the first few days of growth. Here is how you address it.

    I'm in Florida. I recently purchased 8 varieties if peppers from you (and other seeds) The peppers have been under grow lights since 11/15 and 11/22. Both dates of peppers have sprouted except for the California Wonders. 6 of each and 12 sweet banana peppers. Since we don't get very cold here, I'm going to attempt to grow them over the winter. They will be in pots so I can bring them indoors if necessary. Thanks for selling reliable seeds that sprout.😄

    Gary, I love that you focus on spending LESS $$ to start and maintain your gardens - I always appreciate your tips to save $$! I have 4 48" 4-bulb grow lights I use for seed starting - they are T5 fluorescent bulb units. I want to buy LED bulbs to replace the fluorescent ones. I watched your video showing you buying the integrated (I think) LED units at Walmart but wanted to know if you had any suggestions for replacement LED bulbs (bulbs alone) I can use in my T5 ballasts - LED bulbs and/or cost saving places to buy? Any info is always appreciated...thanks!

    Hi Gary, always watching your great videos. I am from Cape Town, South Africa and I have often wondered seeing that the wildlife such as deer, squirrels etc. sometimes get to your vegetables, what about snakes, do you ever come across them in your garden.? Yes I know they won't bother your vegetables but aren't you perhaps afraid that you may be tagged when you are scratching around in the foliage. I am in a residential area in my part of the world and it it is not uncommon to encounter the Cape Cobra in our garden, a very venomous snake that kills if you do not get immediate medical treatment. I am just curious hence my question to you.

    So snakes here arent really poisonous. They typically dont hang around areas like this. So we have snakes that eat rodents. And they are pretty docile.

    Hi Gary. Started seedlings for the first time this year, which quickly grew into an obsession...lol. Guess I did OK saving the seeds last year ;) Two things have come up. a) Am 'way ahead of schedule for Zone 6b. Some warm weather crops ready to go in the ground but not even close yet by the calendar (another 4-6 weeks) and b) Set up is under grow lights in the basement. Running out of room so brought really healthy cilantro and sunflowers (yes, I know they can be direct seeded, so not worried) upstairs to entryway getting morning sun but all got really unhappy real fast. Did the transition require hardening off even though they have never been outdoors? Thanks for all you've taught me the past couple of years. I've won competitions with our hort club, missing it so during this past year. {We're in our 3rd lockdown; the plants have been my sanity :)) }

    So you got starting down for sure. I have to force myself not to start too early. But is so fun. The indoor transition shouldn't require hardening off but it is a lot less light usually. Maybe they didnt like that. Congrats on victory too. I hope the sanity returns soon and the competitions come back. It seemed to work ok this summer, but during the winter when I'm prepping for Spring that's obviously not an option.
