Great video. I missed Dr. Esselstyn''s wonderful photos of repaired arteries but this video was well prepared, concise and equally informative. I'm on my way. Let's see if my aneurysm can be repaired. My cardiologist doesn't think so; I'm willing to take the gamble. Wish me luck. Thank you, Gianna and thanks Doctor.

I used to be on Wheat Belly, a low carb diet. Sure, I lost weight and my cholesterol went down somewhere, but I never heard anyone with heart disease say "my low carb diet reversed my heart disease." Only the way of eating that Dr. Esselstyn advocates can make that claim. Great job, doc.

Dr. Esselstyn best person alive to get nutritional advice from. Thanks to him at 40 I have arteries of a 22 years old after a series of tests performed in a clinic in Japan after 2.5 years on his Whole food low fat not oil plant based diet (I have to admit a lot of green leafy vegetables). I have to say I did not use any nuts of avocados during this period and only one or two brasilian nuts/week and copious amounts of ground flaxseed in all my vegetables soups. I have also been using Turmeric and black pepper together the flaxseed in nearly all my food. Other spices I used and use regularly even now are Cinnamon, Cloves, Cumin and Ginger. My Total Cholesterol is 116 mg/dl. Never felt better in my life. I do not know my artery conditions before this 2.5 years lifestyle but I was fairly active with sport and I did not eat animal flash for 3 years before starting it. I did eat eggs though and probably 2-3 weekly. I really believe now we do not need high fat foods and oils in our life and the fats contained naturally in vegetables, grains, legumes and fruits are plenty for a healthy lifestyle. I went back to Italy for a month and I had lot of vegan pizzas cooked with olive oil, alot of pastas with vegan oily sauces and pretty much every vegetable and plant food fund in restaurants was floating in oil and salty. I had not choice for that month. I came back to Japan and performed again the same battery of tests to my arteries and the results changed dramatically from my earlier result. The age of my arteries came back 35 years old. Still a little away from my real age of 40 but also far away from the 22 years old following a strict low fat not oil not salt diet. Salt, Fat, Oil impair artery function not doubt. I am now back strictly on Esselstyn nutritional advice and nothing will change this until the next short holiday. :-)

Still on Esselstyn lifestyle and now my arterial age dropped to a less the 19 years old. Remarkable. The doctor that performed the test sent the results to several cardiologists he knew across the world as a reference study. Je was utterly shocked to se such amazing "one of a kind" results.

That's very interesting! So, what do you put in a salad or a soup to make it tasty since you use no salt?

  • @pedecia

    @pedecia

    5 жыл бұрын

@@1hopefulman240 there are japanese and korean markets/shops that sells sauces made of fruits and herbs without oil and we use also some soy sauce as salt replacement. These sauces are cheap and 100% natural ingredients so we buy different variaties to change as we feel. On soups we use many herbs and garlic/onion to give good taste. It depends if italian style soups or asian we use different sauces and ingredients like tomato sauce, basil, origano, mint, or ginger, asian basil, chives and many other herbs that gives amazing different taste. We always use couple of chopped walnuts and a spoon of ground flaxseed with it.

I've thus far eaten the following: Breakfast: Quick oats, dates, frozen blueberries and frozen apple + coffee with soy milk Snack: Microwaved kale + mustard + apple-cider vinegar Lunch: Brown rice, green gram, red lentils, tofu, kale, cranberries, asparagus, carrot, peas, corn, onion, black pepper, turmeric, garlic powder, ginger powder, mustard, sriracha sauce, additional spices, roasted seaweed. Drink: Coffee with soy milk Snack: Microwaved popcorn + garlic powder + hot sauce + tamarind sauce Dinner: Brown rice, green gram, red lentils, kale, sweet potato, cranberries, asparagus, carrot, peas, corn, onion, black pepper, turmeric, garlic powder, ginger powder, mustard, sriracha sauce, additional spices. Dessert: Frozen blueberries. I am stuffed after each meal, and I've been losing pounds in a healthy way (I walk a lot also.)

I love to say plant pure or plant based because it keeps the general discussion on the food , learning more interesting recipes and sharing about healthy results for those of us that the health part is paramount. I think its great Dr E and Dr Caldwell keep it focused to their particular mission. There are others who keep it focused on animals and I think that is great.

I am late to watching this interview but I am sure glad I did. I am already vegan but a fat vegan. Through laziness and wanting quick foods because I hate to cook, and going through a challenging life situation, I have relied on a lot of starches, processed foods and the very worst a lot of sugar. I can clearly say that I am a sugar addict. But, if I keep watching inspiring videos like this, hopefully, I can kick this habit. I was vegetarian for 25 years and now 10 years vegan. I try to walk the talk. But everyone is put off that I am a fat vegan and this not only hurts me and made me more reclusive but then I do not have the opportunity to speak about the cruelty to the animals and the destruction of the planet if I look bad. Sadly, humans believe you have to be skinny before you can do any good in the world. Even vegans are not compassionate to other vegans. I hope this is something that will change.

If you don’t have heart disease, then his position doesn’t apply to you. Nor does it apply to you if you don’t care about becoming disabled in the future. He has said numerous times (including in his book Reversing and Preventing Heart Disease) that if a study participant began consuming oil, even just a little, it shows up in the testing. The is proof positive that oil does have an adverse impact. Unfortunately, those of us who don’t feel the buildup of plaque in arteries will believe, like you, that it’s “not about oils.” The damage happens without our awareness.

I just turned 17. I started having symptoms of angina including chest pains, palpitations, arm pains and numbness, and slight dizziness. Now looking back i really messed my body up. When i turned 16 and got a job at Blue Beacon, i at delicious greasy pizza almost everyday and hotdogs about once a week. I never got fat since i moved a lot but it really slowed me down. The problem now is that i dont know how to eat plant base whole food. I feel as though ill get nutrient deficiencies. Any help on what portions and what to eat everyday?

This is a great question and one that I think Dr Barnard answers quite well, along with several others. A B-12 supplement should be all you need, but first starting out you could do a vegan multivitamin like Mary Ruth's brand. Eat whole fruits, whole vegetables, whole grains, whole legumes, and a few nuts & seeds(chia & hemp) Dont overthink it too much! I hope you've found some good resources since this was written. Good luck! Your health is worth it!

Dr Esselstyn is wrong to cite Social Security as " pulling this nation into debtors prison." Social Security contributes nothing to the deficit and pays for itself fully and is still operating at a surplus, though the surplus is diminishing. Otherwise he is correct.

The Westren civilization is still a baby ,not mature ,in comparison to our culture in Middle East,Babylon,Samaria,Assyria and all that area is normal ,easy ,to eat the healthiest food on the planet ,called Mediterranean,Please respect and learn from us ,called undeveloped counties, not true.Hummus ,Falafil, taboula salad ,Kuba ,stuffed grape leaves ,it is simple ,every day practice ,by generations. The West needs time to mature, get the wisdom, and learning is slow, hard, and to be humble to admit ignorance is greatness and wisdom and means you are willing to learn .Dut if your politicians told you ,you are the greatest nation on the plant, then you believe these lies,if you are not educated, skeptics.I was taught in Baghdad medical school,do not trust even your father. This means we do not trust news, media, governments. What is your reference or bench mark for greatness? Is it as Dr Mark Hymen ,an American said 88 percent in USA are unhealthy metabolically. This make me sad ,because weapon of mass destruction is your SAd diet and not countries like Iraq,Afghanistan.Focus on your health inside your homes and be humble ,learn ,respect others even if they look different from you ,brown ,black, short ,tall ,Celebrate the truth and learning.

There are plenty of vegans who do wfpb diets for the animals and their health like me! (not to mention less processed plant foods have smaller carbon footprints too). Veganism isn’t just a diet 😊

We are meant to eat what keeps us healthy and thriving. With current understanding of nutrition that points us to fruit, veggies, berries, grains, beans, lentils, nuts, seeds and away from meat, dairy and eggs. And of course it is not just about diet. Our lifestyle really should include living as ethically as possible. And vegan is by far a more ethical lifestyle with regards to animals and the environment than the alternative. Peace! :)

It will not kill you, and if anyone thinks so, they are wrong. people in Japan and China eat seafood and meat. they lifespan is greater than America and other countries. @@20891 "I would love to lock any Dr's or individuals in a cell and feed them lettuce all day. Then see how they feel and think about preaching only plant based diet," Lettuce in not the only plant food there is to eat. There is a vast variety of plants to eat, and of course we need that variety to get all the vitamins, minerals, macro nutrients and phytochemicals. Fruits, berries, veggies, starches, nuts, seeds etc. "These vegans are blaming every disease on meat. they are sick " No, just the diseases that science has shown to be caused by meat. Colds and small pox aren't caused by meat, but heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke and certain types of cancer surely are. "Enjoy cookies, seafoods, ice cream, cheese, eggs. varieties in foods make life more interesting. " There are vegan versions for every single one of these foods if one wants to be indulgent every once in a while. Veganism isn't about health, but about ethics. Whole foods, plant-based eating is about health. I don't care what people eat as long at it doesn't involve cruelty. Try out vegan ice cream, cookies and fast food and you will see that you don't have to give anything up to enjoy food. The only difference is that you don't support animal exploitation at the cost of the environment.

@Nick H Your first sentence was somewhat intriguing, and made me wonder if you knew anything about the research that I haven't read. Your second sentence demonstrated that you're just a reactionary who doesn't want to eat a plant-based diet, and therefore needs to construct a straw-man argument to avoid considering it. To be clear: Nobody ever claimed that the entire human race was ever herbivorous, and the science backing a plant-based diet doesn't depend on that at all.
