    Just watched this again and think it is one of THE BEST videos on preparing your boat for a day of fishing. Very well thought out processes and gear. Everything you need and leaves out the excess stuff that you don't need. Showed how to maximize the storage capacity that you do have on a smaller offshore boat for a day trip.

    super great video and very informative tips sir.. I have a 2001 key west 1520 with a new yamaha t50 motor. I also like to organize everything in it to the max,because like you said you never know what can happen out there on the water.I had mine out a few miles thru cape canaveral a few times but mostly fish the indian river,but ye when it is calm i will take it to the ocean. I really like your tip on the freezing the jugs instead of buying ice,so that is one new thing i will start doing from now on. So thanks for the video enjoy fishing and catch a lot of fish sir.

    Captain, you know your stuff, good preparation for a great fishing adventure . Is true that trying to do multiple things in one day is not possible, having a plan according to the conditions is essential and maybe on the way back do something else if there is time or the first idea didn’t work completely. Some days, I believe, anybody comes back empty handed, one day for the fisherman, another day for the fish. Stay safe and healthy.

    Another great video and the extra key idea is bonus! I would add keeping a mental inventory of what you actually use on trips and what is just taking up space. I find that as I get rid of excess “stuff”, the quicker I can get moving toward the ramp and the easier I can find what I need when I need it. Thanks

    That was an excellent video. Well presented and methodical presentation of getting the boat and gear ready. Only other thing to add when trailering to the launch, would be to check your tire pressure on the trailer. Have you done a video on unpacking the boat after a trip? Would like to see that process presented in your methodical method. Cheers!

    Thanks a million for watching and sharing.... excellent idea about the salt. Been using jugs for something like 40 years... can't ever remember using just straight ice bags. Prep work can be over thought and under done... there's a science to each anglers process... especially when it comes to streamlining and getting it done timely, so you spend more time fishing and less time packing. Thanks a million for watching and leaving some great feedback. I truly and sincerely appreciate it and your support for the channel. Little boats like these 17 to 20-footers can definitely get way offshore. And the best part about it is the gas bill is reasonable. Catching big fish in a little boat is all part of the game and it makes it that much more special. Best part about it is I can get in water that's a shallow as two feet or less or I can go way out to the middle of the ocean. The versatility and possibilities are pretty much unlimited. Thanks again. Be safe out there. Tight lines & take care ;)

    Hi Heath, great information to prepare for a good day of fishing. Having the right gear in the right place really makes a difference. When we had our 17 ft boat, it took some time to prepare for a day on the water. When we had the 24 ft boat at the marina, it was easer to get ready. Most of the gear was already on the boat. We saw so many problems at the boat ramp where people were not prepared to launch their boat. Hope the family is well and Avi gets out to fish again. Take care and keep the videos coming, Mickey

    Hi Mickey, thanks a boat load for always being here, always watching, and always sharing your relatable experiences. Growing up, my family, always had boats at marinas, then we moved to a house on a canal when I was a teenager... that made loading up a breeze. I get the "CRABCAKE" packed up in about 20 - 30 minutes. Not too bad, but it's taken years to streamline and not over think the process. Being unprepared at the ramp is frustrating, but it comes with the territory, we all have the same goal in mind... That's where patience can truly be a virtue. Everyone here is doing well, hope the same for you and your family. Me, Avi and the girls have made some trips, but the fishing has been slow, with not much to show. But that's about to change, with the onset of Spring. See you Thursday. Take care :)

    65 miles is a major trip in any vessel. The Bahamas are only 55 miles east of where I am. Thankfully you can find good times without having to head all the way out there. Big boats don't mean, bigger fish & better anglers. They equate to a larger fuel & maintenance bill :) All jokes aside, it's not the boat that makes the angler, it's how you use it. Putting in your time, dedication, patience, persistent, learning & gaining knowledge through failures and triumphs all while staying humble and thankful is what sets true anglers apart from the masses. Having multiple electronics, live well and other accessories running at the same time makes no difference on the power draw from the meaning, meaning it won't drain it quick. Were you involved in fabricating that fishing deck in the back. I have a 2003 KW with a 2017 115 Yamaha. Oh by the way. There’s nothing gained with going from 90 to 115. The engine weight just about negates gain of speed and there’s more backwash through scuppers because the stern sits lower.

  • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing

    @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks a million for watching and sharing. Boat originally came with 90 Evinrude, perfect light weight engine for the boat. Boat had major damage from Hurricane Irma, went to repower it, talked directly to Key West rep and he said don't do the 115, it'll weight it down and you won't gain much speed, and fuel and oil consumption will increase. Like you said. So, I went with the 2017, 90HP. Yes, the dive platform on the back is a custom addition. I like to get in the water sometimes, so do the kids, and having a ladder makes it easier to get out, that climbing up on the engine. Thanks again for your support of the channel. Penn squall setups are great reels. Keep them clean and serviced and they'll earn every penny of their worth.

    @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks a million for watching and leaving some great feedback. I truly appreciate it and your support for the channel. First 17's are a great choice, especially when it comes to service cost and fuel. Makos and whalers are great boats, both time tested manufacturers that have technologically advanced hulls that will get the job done. Personally, when searching for your boat... If you're looking to head offshore don't go with the newer model tri-hull boats, almost look like they have a flat bottom, these aren't made for that Bimini trip. They are inshore boats. Look for a V shaped hull. Also, you're gonna want to have a mechanic check out the motor. The motor is the heart & soul of the boat, it's also where the most cost of maintenance can come from. You're gonna want to have a compression test done on the engine, have the injectors, fuel lines, filters and spark plugs checked, and have them examine the intake to make sure the engine was flushed regularly with fresh water after a trip in the ocean. Corrosion and electrolysis are extremely damaging things. The owner should have a log of when the engine was serviced. These are typically print-outs that a computer that analyzes the engine creates. They tell you any issues the engine had or has, if the engine has any faults. Also gives you an accurate read out of engine hours, and at what RPM they most traveled at. Most importantly, when it comes to the engine is engine hours. DO NOT trust the engine hour meter on the console, it can easily be replaced or manipulated to give false readings. If they don't have an accurate engine hour report, you're taking a risk. If the engine has under 1000 hours you're probably good as long as regular servicing and flushing have been done. if the engine has several thousand hours on it, again you are taking a risk. Hope all this helps. Thanks again. Good luck in your searches.

There are publicly marked fishing spots like reefs and wrecks, that you can navigate to and set a more accurate waypoint once you reached the destination and save it in your GPS hard drive. Also, you can look at the contour lines, the stenography, that is drawn on the screen, that defines the bottom inclines and declines... This is how I use it for research and discovery. Boat caps out at 6000 RPMs, weight is under 1200 Lbs including engine, coupled with the torque created by a stainless steel Viper prop that has been pitched to match the boat's weight and hull type, thus allowing to go, what may seem unreasonably fast for a boat of this size. Leave a float plan with someone you know. Solo fishermen have heart attacks, strokes, and other medical emergencies and become incapacitated while out on the water. I had an uncle that died on his boat while fishing. That radio in the front storage is useless if you drop to the deck with a medical emergency. I keep mine clipped to my belt and it has a built in GPS. One button press sends mayday long/late directly to the USCG and it will keep doing it every five minutes until I deactivate it. If something goes wrong with that, the float plan is there if you don't come back in time. Redundancy in safety is the most overlooked aspect and is literally what can save your life. Listen to me Heath. I've had a heart attack. You're may not be able to get to that radio in the bow. And if you die, I won't be able to learn your fishing secrets 😁.

I'm not a spring chicken anymore and you're right anything can happen out there and definitely be a showstopper. Always great to hear from you and I really do appreciate your point of view here. Thanks again for everything. Tight lines & take care ;)
