Great stuff thanks! How would I improve lacquer/ spots without relacquer?

You can spot lacquer as a temporary fix, but it's very tough to match the finish, especially if it's a tinted lacquer. We've experimented with brush on lacquer for small areas like key feet, and have also used an air brush. There are several methods you can research for cleaning up and finishing small areas. Is there a way that you can bring a student horn up to a pro horn?

That's difficult because the key work that comes with student instruments is generally less intricate and often the structure that holds the keys is not as well made or as strong as a professional instrument. So it's much harder to do precision key work on a student instrument that will last or hold the tolerances needed to allow you to bring a student instrument into the pro level in terms of mechanical function.
