In this episode I'll try to powder coat bullets the DIY way!
Colored bullets DIY.
If you are in Europe and would like to try it out you can find the powders here:
verniceapolvere.it/en/products
But why make the effort of powder coating the bullets and make colored bullets?
Because lead bullets to lead up the barrel of the gun or rifle forcing gunman to spend lots of time in tedious cleaning operations.
Moreover, the lead tends to make a lot of smoke and smell, and finally exposing the shooter to lead contamination that, as we know, is not really the healthiest thing in this world.
Over time, many systems have been developed to prevent these problems, including full metal jackets, or grease and oil lubrication. Today, however, the powder coating of the lead bullet is a viable and economical alternative to prevent these problems, sealing the lead inside the thin coating of very hard plastic. Painting bullets has never been so easy!
So in this bullet journal we will use two different techniques for powder coating that do not require the use of an electrostatic gun to achieve nice and colorful bullets, absolutely DIY.

What did we do:
- cleaning of the lube from store bought lead bullets
- mixing of the powder coat with acetone solvent
- coating of the bullets with two techniques
- baking in the oven
- packing of the bullets in the casing
Made in Rome, Italy we take a look at an European approach to modifying and customizing an Harley Davidson with Custom Cez, an amateur customizer in his home shop.
An RMPnet.com production, music by FAS.

I just got into powdercoating my cast 45 230gr, this is what works amazing for me so far. I preheat bullets for 5 min in 140f then put in a #5 or 7 plastic container with a tablespoon of powder for about 200 boolits then hand tumble in a circular direction, not shaking, that will dent your casts. After two minutes I pour them out over the 1/4 in hardware cloth/screen and pick them up wearing nitrile gloves, rolling them in my fingers as I place them standing up on parchment paper in the toaster oven pan. Making sure none are touching. 400F at 14 minutes, less time and your PC might fail a hammer test (flaking off by smashing with hammer) I would never bake them laying on their side, the sizing will be inconsistent as well as your accuracy with them. I size after PC. HIghly recommend the Eastwood Copper Penny pc or the Neon Green from the Powdercoat store. Certain colors have abrasives in them such as black so keep that in mind and always use powders on the glossy side.

I had a question on powder coating. I notice when I go to respray any part that needs it. It tends to fisheye almost instantly, what causes this? And how can I go about fixing that issue? Thanks I'll be watching your videos on powdercoating. Maybe I'll learn a thing or two 😊

You mention some powders contain abrasives such as black, please elaborate. How does one get info on different powders to compare the amounts of abrasive components?

Replace need for bullet lube as well, sealing lead exposure when handling. You can ramp up the velocity as well. Not much leading goin on under 1000fps in a pistol length barrel

Please don't take this the wrong way. I understand these types of videos are not easy to produce.. But there are so many things you have done wrong. 1st. Powder coating bullets is always done dry and yes you got removing the wax lube correct. 2nd The only time you mix acetone with a powder to coat bullet is exclusively for a product called "hi Tec" bullet coatings. Just so we're clear it's a powder but it's not powder coating. it's a proprietary blend of polymers that needs acetone to suspend it ...it will not go on dry. 3rd is When you attempted to powder coat the bullets dry in the 3rd segment you left the wax lube on the bullets . ..that's what cause the problem even if you didn't melt them by not watching the oven temperature they've would have looked like crap because the wax contaminated the powder coating, & how you messed that up I can't fig it. We set our oven temp to 400°f max & lead starts to melt or get soft around 650°f and starts to melt at 700°f ...how you got a toaster oven to that temp is odd. I guess in Europe they must have special toaster ovens. I give you credit for making a educational... I mean entertaining video but please if you're going to do something research it and put out the information that is correct.

I think you're being a bit close minded. The wet method obviously works. I've seen others do it with acetone like this. So I don't think it limited to hi-tek only...

If it works like he showed it does, you can't say anything about it. The guy did an excellent job of explaining and showing 2 different processes of powder coating. If you think you know more or can do better make a video!

Very nice.... just in the future grasp each bullet with needle nose pliers and stand them up on the mesh.. they melt down and cover whatever marks your plier tips might leave... :)

The real reason those bullets melted is because you have solder in your lead mix. Solder contains a LOT of tin, which lowers the melting point to as low as 385ºF.
