Thanks for this video! Great information. I searched your channel and noticed that most of the uploads are shorts. Mostly less than 1 minute. I hate shorts but I’ve noticed KZread must be pushing this format as most channels are running them. I’m here to learn and am willing to invest some time but KZread is getting greedy so I’m looking forward to a new platform that will allow makers to showcase their talents. I appreciate you and your willingness to share your expertise. Great work!!!

Great detailed video Dusty. One thing that I would like people to be aware of is the VOC level of epoxies. Used out doors or a well vented area would be advisable as you don’t want to breath the off gases. Plus when your using heat to pop the bubbles, it is important to keep the flame moving and not heat the epoxy too much otherwise you get a rough orange peel finish. Most of my epoxy work is marine related with wetting out cloth etc. However, since I moved from Vancouver (to just up the road from you), I have started on my first barn wood reclaim projects. A 108 year old barn got hit with a tornado in July and salvaged what I could. Glad I came across you channel since you showed us how to get a straight edge and square things up before glue up. The filler you us will be what I think I will use as well since I was wondering what to do about the cracks. I like the pattern you used on this piece and will consider it when I build the table for the owners of the barn. 1 Question...how thick did you rip the barn wood and how would you attach to the ply-wood? Lastly, would this technique make it more stable or is it more for weight savings? Gosh that was more that ??? My Bad😂. Thanks again, keep the videos coming. Will use your techniques as I proceed.

Kevin Riese thanks!! So I mill the thin planks to 1/4” thick. The main reason is to get the strength of the plywood and the beauty of the barn wood. I also get more of the character because by the time I mill it that think it’s flexible and I can preserve more. If I use solid lumber and it’s twisted then I loose a lot of the character in the jointing and planing process 👍

Have you ever had epoxy fail? I'm having to refinish a epoxy coated reclaimed table, where the epoxy cracked at the breadboard/table joint. Thoughts???

Hey Dusty, love the videos. Question, I'm getting ready to try my first epoxy pour on two special ordered farm house tables. I see the East Coast epoxy you used has a green and orange stripe on the bottles. Are the bottles with the red and blue stripes the same product? Thanks

Making a table top out of fairly old barnwood. Im trying to keep the character of the old barnwood intact. Sealed the bottom of the table and 2 sealcoats for the top before the final pour. Final pour i have probaly 15 different spots where air bubbles are continually rising and destroying the finish. Seems like whatever i do bubbles overpower the epoxy and wont seal. Ive read that heating the room and table to a higher temperature might help these bubbles from forming. Ive also considered inverting the table to seal these areas hoping if bubbles are created they don’t follow the same path and seal. Would appreciate any suggestions

Jerrud King thanks man! I like the Bessey H clamps, you can just buy the ends and then get 3/4 pipe from Lowe’s or Home Depot or a pipe fitter to whatever length you want. As far as blades go I switch between brands based on price, right now I use one called trade-a-blade because I can trade the old blades in for a credit when I buy another but for my track saw I use the makita brand always and I love it. it is very hard to find a epoxy here in our country. any suggestiin in where and how to get one

Great video, you would benefit though by using a microphone. It's difficult to hear you that far from your camera.

I have a table that has a rough surface that can trap sauce / dirt should I just pour a thick layer of epoxy to even it out and apply the satin finish product?

What if I don't rough sand it ? I want the wood rough under the epoxy ?

The Dusty Lumber Co Wow that was quick! So Sand the epoxy from 220 to 1500ish Grid and then the osmo should do the trick?

Lucky Luke yes, basically just go up in grit until the Osmo will hide the scratch marks of the last grit sand paper you use 👍

It's from a barn.... so it's recycled lumbar from an old building
