HOW TO POUR AND FINISH A CONCRETE PATIO AND WALKWAY

#concretepatio #concretewalkway #mikedayconcrete
In this video I'm showing you how we setup, pour and finish a concrete patio with an attached concrete walkway plus a separate concrete entry slab.
I start by showing you how we installed our forms for the patio slab and how we attached the concrete walkway to the patio with a little ramp section.
We also formed a concrete slab for the entry door that was 5' x 5' and finished it with a broom finish.
The concrete patio, walkway and entry slabs all had 2 inches of styrofoam under them to help control (and stop) any frost from getting under the slabs and heaving them in the winter.
We have good luck with using 2 inch styrofoam on a good gravel base under our exterior concrete in Maine. It insulates the ground enough so it doesn't freeze and heave the concrete.
We poured the concrete 6 inches thick for all the slabs and thickened the edges for the patio for some extra strength. All the concrete was 4000 psi with 3/4 stone and had air-entranment for freeze/thaw protection.
For the concrete finish, we mag floated the surface using our new funny float, and cut in our grooves with our new walk behind groover. (see below for a link to check out).
We gave the concrete surface a broom finish left the finished tool marks to both the groover and concrete edger.

Yea, we have to do that a lot for frost protection on most our exterior slabs.

Those octagon blue handle racks are the best! You can keep a good grip even when your hands are really sweaty.

I don't do concrete but find the videos interesting... Very cool--far better than TV. Do you ever consider putting up something to shade the concrete in extreme conditions?
