I have been following your channel since before. I got guinea pigs and have taken your advice. I am still learning even after owning them for about a year, but my cage has gotten to the point where I only have to do a full cage clean about every 2 to 3 weeks, depending on how consistent I am with adding extra lighters and bathmats, it is not only save me money but time as I have a disability and deep cleaning is very hard on me. Thank you for all the education you have given us.❤

You are BRILLIANT!!! I just took the hay racks out of the cage last night and put a huge hay pile in their “kitchen”. Basically that one section of the cage is separate from the rest of the cage with a little doorway for them to go through. Almost all the poops are now contained in the kitchen area now and the rest of the cage looks pretty darn good! Thanks for all the helpful tips!!! I’ll continue to follow your channel closely ❤️🙂

Loved this video! I never thought it possible, but my Harriet is pretty much potty trained, except for a couple stray poops, she goes in the corner where I put her hay. I put a lot,top it off and she is funny as i know when she goes. She used to pee in her hidey, but since I kept using fleece and I have found that she loves to stay clean and she does't do that anymore. Thank you for your great tips--also, i switched to a bigger home and that was a plus!

Not sure if anyone has said this yet, but the reason your pigs might be attracted to behind the tv stand/near the radiator, is the electrical wires. Rodents like pigs hear a humming sound from electrical wires and that draws them to nibble on them, which can obviously be very dangerous. So great that you're keeping them away from those areas. Thanks for all the great advice!

Having a big collection of piddle pads has been a game changer for me. I rotate them during daily spot cleaning and they double up as a comfy sleeping pad for my girls too, much easier to fill up a laundry bag with them and do the occasional load between a full cage clean. My girls are odd though, they use their hay tray but their favourite place to do their business is their loft! We get huge amounts of peeps and poops up there and it gets it's own deep clean every few days. The downstairs main cage stays much cleaner, I just find it so odd their favourite toileting spot is somewhere that seems more exposed 😂 Really though, thank you for the tips and education. I've had piggies for 11 years but still have plenty of learn, and have picked up some invaluable lessons from you! ( Hay tray included, what a revelation in keeping things tidy that was!)

Hi Sarah, I want to start off by saying I love your channel! I have been fostering 2 male guinea pigs due to their owner experiencing a medical emergency with a brain hemorrhage. He is still in recovery and we have now decided to fully adopt the piggies as he feels he can't take care of them anymore. I have purchased a new C&C cage and want to give them a whole new setup as their cage before was way too small and not ideal for piggies. I love your setup and want to do the litter tray as well. How often do you top the hay? How often do you do a full clean out of litter tray? I have never owned guinea pigs before, so I am learning as I go. Any advice or tips is greatly appreciated! I have fallen in love with these two piggies and want to give them the best life possible. Thank you so much! You have truly helped me learn all about piggies the last month! Diana

So a tray full of hay will keep most of their poop and pee in there. This is a good idea. I know it's not perfect but if you have fleece and bath mats this is actually a great idea to cut down on how much poop and pee you get.

I am a proud daddy of Lil Amanda a young short-haired piggy. Someone abandoned her and another one but the second one died in our rose bushes, unfortunately. Animal Control came to retrieve the remains. I was watering and the lil piggy came running out of the flower bush. It surprised both of us. Me wondering what the heck a piggy was even doing in my yard and the piggy because I gave her an unsolicited shower. I told her I was sorry. I made up by giving her a salad, hay, water, and a piece of apple. After a week we decided to bring her inside. I watched your videos and made Lil Amanda a nice area to live in. I made her a temporary Chateau with curtains and chopsticks for the curtain rod. I am making her a more durable Castle out of a plastic storage bin I know she will like. We own a rabbit name Lady Cottontail with almost the same story. (We won't be mixing them together) She hopped into our lives 09-07-22 we found her under my car and now we have a new member of the family. Lil Amanda. (What a coincidence?) My wife will be making the hay bag this weekend and the cage pad/s for her area. She's a seamstress (hobby). I wanted to chime in to say Thank you for taking the time to create these videos. I appreciate you. I have learned a lot. I'm taking a crash course piggy 101. Angel from The Bay Area, CA USA

Little confused- where are you keeping the hay that you encourage them to eat? Versus the hay for litter box? I only see it in the one place. Totally new to this and trying to figure out the best set up for us.

My sows are amazingly potty trained, including one mama's 2 pups(1 is a boy). But my boars... oh my older boars. They love pooping everywhere EXCEPT the litter box. 🥲 My older boars came from the same place, I suspect their mother wasn't toilet trained or they were taken away too early. Why? Because my mama pig taught her 2 pups very quickly on where to poo and pee! I find it better if the litter box is covered with a cardboard box or sheet (they like their privacy). P.S. Where did you get those table x hammocks!? 😍😍😍

Hi. I have 2 boys who seem to soil more than my first pair of guinea pigs. I feel like their pads need to be changed out every 2 to 3 days. It just seems to get gross if I wait beyond this time frame. I use fleece bedding, noodle mats, and little piggy size fleece "beds". Am I changing too often?

Hi, I have a question! So I have had my guinea pigs for about six or seven months until they are still very shy, and will run away from me and hide them to their hinds! I’m not sure why they are doing this. Veggies every morning and I tried to hold them often to get used to me. Tips?

A bit off-topic. We got 2 young male guinea pigs a week 1/2 ago. At first, the black one kept mounting the brown one, the dominance game. But once we had them in the house, it was always the black one that ran into their house and the brown one showing us more curiosity as we communicated with them. For the first week, then, the brown one was mounting the black one, suddenly showing that HE was boss. But NOW, as of a few days ago, it's the black one mounting the brown again - now that he's starting to feel braver around us. Do guinea pigs always "take turns" to show who's dominant? Or is this only when they're youngsters?

do u have any hay recommendations other than timothy hay? i live in australia and timothy hay is extremely expensive and ive been trying to save up my own money to buy some but my parents would not allow me to spend $20 aud for 450 grams of hay

  • @scifirocks

Timothy hay is mainly grown in north America, everywhere else in the world has to import it which means it's very expensive and only available in small quantities. It's just a species of grass, it isn't particularly better than other grass species it's just so widely available there it's really popular. I live in the UK, so I don't know what is available in Australia. Our hay tends to be either Orchard or Meadow hay, it tends to be a wide mixture of species of grasses and herbs. It's been grown like this here for several centuries so we don't have monoculture hay crops like they do in America.

Can piggies be put safely in a multi level cage such as a chinchilla or ferret cage?

  • @SqueakDreams

    @SqueakDreams

    Жыл бұрын

Good question! But no, multi level cages aren't suitable for guinea pigs, because the minimum floor area (e.g. 10.5 square feet for two pigs) should be on a single flat level. Guinea pigs are not agile, some will not use ramps, and they like to get the 'zoomies' and run laps of a single level large area for exercise. I recommend looking into DIY C&C cages (you can buy the materials and make yourself very easily). Hope this helps!

I'm trying it once more with a guinea I'm taking care of. He is used to wood lining is still being trained. I belive I change my fleece liner very often (every 3 days) and its becoming tiresome. I have pee pads but I have the idea the fleece is smelly... maybe the smell just comes from the litter box
