I can't wait to play these again. I had them on my old phone, before the free versions with ads. Been meaning to get the new PC ports and Sonic 3 AIR and play the classic trilogy in the best way possible. I'll be coming back to this as a reference in case I come across any issues setting it up.

I’m lucky to still have my old Android Phone, which (to be lucky enough) already removed the adds from the games, so now I can enjoy the games on my pc (btw I finished both with all the emeralds on the same day...)

Sonic Origins is SEGA's officially ported widescreen support, enhanced graphics, and smooth visuals, by using the Mobile Ports they released in 2013 & adding new features like the Drop Dash. Even though Rubberduckycooly did the unofficial port of Sonic 1, Sonic 2, and Sonic CD decompilation. And released them to be ported on PC, PS Vita, and etc. *Notice* There is a difference of Music Style between Sonic 1 & Sonic 2 Mobile Ports vs. Sonic Origins because the Mobile Ports have Enhanced Music & Origins have the Original SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive. Sonic 3 & Knuckles music is completely different because they use the proto music on Origins as the same as Sonic & Knuckles Collection for Windows 95.

managed to run both sonic 1 and 2 in that github thing, it runs really smoothly and if i couldn't play any game i want because of no internet or something, i would definetly spend some time in that.

How fascinating! I'm no mobile gamer however the quality and the frame rate stood out well. Fans are doing all of the hard work for SEGA but who can complain.

Looking forward to trying this out once some of the bugs have been ironed out. I did have these ports on my old gaming tablet (with XBox style controls) but the screen cracked a while ago, and touchscreen controls just ain't my bag!

When using the decomp you need to rename the data.rsdk.xmf file, just remove the .xmf at the end and it should work.

They look really cool on a PC. There do seem to be downloads (for earlier variations of S2 at least) on Sonic Retro’s page for the ports. Shame it seems to only be on Windows, as my computer is a Chromebook. Until (maybe) a port comes out, I’ll be just fine playing S2 on my Kindle Fire.

Chromebook? Isnt chromebook compatible with apks? Or the Google playstore? I remember playing sonic cd on my chromebook back in like 2018 or 2019

Thanks so much for this! I watched this video a few days ago, downloaded both games on my phone, and for the first time could play and beat Sonic 2 and 1 (in that order, over the past 2 days!) in widescreen! (However, I didn't see Hidden Palace, maybe because I didn't get the chaos emeralds. And the next step is to implement that Sonic 2 desert stage fully!)

No, the emeralds are not necessary you need to got to Mystic Cave Act 2 then fall down to the infamous Spike Pit of Doom you won't fall onto spike but go the zone. @Rationalific

Hey if u want your dev menu to not crash, just press the esc button then you will be in the dev menu without any icky bicky crashes. I got the secret zones working like egg gauntlet zone and proto palace zone in sonic 2 without the code being put on the level select screen. And yes im already seeing some mods for sonic 1 and 2

Community Cut wasn't cancelled. It released yesterday, but the development for it won't go any further than the first release for now. He's shifting gears to move onto the mobile port, as you said.

4:46 that probably happens because you're loading too many assets too quickly, that once happened with me when i was doing something i don't remember, i was playing in windowed mode with the log window open, and it loaded too many assets, that might be fixed, but idk.

This was such big news to me when news broke out. I've played the mobile ports but god I hated the controls. Touch screens are things I don't much care for at the best of times, but for a high-speed action platformer it was just suffering not having tangible feedback as to where my fingers actually were. The sheer amount of times my fingers ended up not being where I thought they were and starting missing or putting in the wrong inputs was painful. I've wanted these on PC for years. That said I'm going to wait for a little while, past the inevitable first set of patches. I wish the team maximum good luck.

Can you do a video on how to set up the UWP? I'd like to add this to my Series X!

This tutorial really helped me out a lot, thanks. The Apk Extractor didn't work on my phone, instead I downloaded the apk files of the games online.

5:23 I had the similar glitch happen to me in the regular mobile edition basically it didn't swap the Sprites when going back to the main menu causing the in-game Sprites to be in the main menu and look very glitchy just like what happened here

I already have both mobile ports on my mobile device, but I did download an APK file of an older version, so I could play Egg Gauntlet Zone from before it was scrubbed clean from the files, except on the big screen.

if you right click to the exe file and then properties and then change the dpi setting to software and boom now the game runs on integer resolution which means it's 4k 60 fps

It's about time this was done. The mobile version is the best version of sonic 2 but sega in its infinite wisdom made that version mobile exclusive.

6:12 What's the value for true 21:9? I use a 21:9 monitor, and at the moment, 570 seems to work fine for both Sonic 1 and 2. If there's a better value that uses the entire screen, and doesn't anything either horizontal or vertical, I would like to know. Edit: I compared some pics on 568 and 572. 570 is perfect at the moment because the black lines on the top and bottom of the screen aren't as big as 572, and 568 loses some horizontal visibility. 570's horizontal visibility is perfect.

I mean 8-9 years without officially playing these definitive ports on consoles was just ridiculous.. here’s hoping SEGA finally woke up and decided to bring the definitive versions of the classics together for the first time

Ubuntu user here, if you dont want to compile the thing on linux you can also use wine with the already compiled windows release and it will still work

You can also play it on chrome os, since Chromebooks have the play store, but expect slight issues the Chromebook has, but make sure you use a controller.

@Biggles! It wasn't completely a waste. Joeway himself is contributing to future versions of this port. And besides, Community's cut is open-source. It could be the foundation of future projects.

Yup, so far I had no glitches with the games (that is NOT the developer menu that you can disable in the config file if you want to), well, except with Sonic 1 and that was my fault for using an old version apk of the game, I had to update it to make it work.

If you didn't know, you can play Sonic 3 air with a rom of Sonic 3 and Knuckles, and it doesn't matter if you remove ads from the Christian Whitehead ports, all you need to do is get the data.rsdk file from the apk. I will not make a difference. You still can buy it to support SEGA though. Also, if you have something like WinRar or 7zip you don't need to change the apk file extension to .zip, as they support opening .apk files.

3 years later we have sonic origins and sonic origins plus which were highly mixed but got better.

how you put on mods is that go to setting and put true on these 2 enginedebugmode and dev menu

I used an online apk and i can get to the menu but when I try to load up the game in softlocks

And Sonic 3 A.I.R has just been ported to the Switch! 2021 will be a good year to be a Sonic fan.

How do you get the option to remove ads. On the link you provide the game does not offer the option to do so. There is always an add in the bottom left corner.

You download the free game from the Play Store. You open the game and in the bottom right corner, a red triangle appears giving you the opportunity to remove the ads through payment. That's the paid game. You can see this happening in my footage at 1:23.

no, as this is only for sonic games like mania, cd, sonic 3 (origins), etc.

For some reason it doesn't start for me I've followed the steps exactly I already own a copy of the games so extracting them was easy but when I launch the decompile program nothing happens I'm on windows 10 btw

Are there cheat codes on it? If so, how do you do it?
