For a month before braids wash your scalp every other day with “MG217 Psoriasis Therapeutic Shampoo & Conditioner 3% SAL-ACID” when you use it in the shower rub it into the scalp and leave it there for a while and always rinse your hair with barely warm water when done never let hot water touch your scalp. Hope this helps I bought this shampoo from walgreens

It takes me up to an hour to braid but for other people the time might vary. Usually last up a month
