Simple offroad skills: Pop a motorcycle clutch

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Lets learn how to pop the clutch and make the rear wheel spin! (or the front wheel lift!)
To my surprise, a lot of my students don't know how to do this, and its strange cause its such a useful technique, that when combined with a few more moves it lets you do all sorts of cool stuff like:
-Pop a wheelie over an obstacle
-Powerslide along a turn
-180 turns
etc (maybe thats it :P)
Its general clutch control, and you should practice it! :P
I hope you learn something today!

    Wow! For me this is something I do constantly when riding offroad! Every time I need to lift the front wheel, or every time I want a big smile exiting a corner, a nice clutch kick (or pop!) is a must have, at least on my 660z!

    I never tried that, fearful that i'd damage the clutch. does it? Sorry for not writing lately, been busy, but always there to watch and like. Curious about and expecting the video course. Good to see you, as always.

    I've been told that some motorcycles that have frail clutches will not get any better if you do this.. on the other hand, i've done this on all my bikes all day every day and never had abnormal clutch wear. Actually, I think my XT660R clutch must be around 60k km now... Popping the clutch is something you either dont do, or cant live without :P. I tend to fall on the second category. Every single wheelie, burnout, and most powerslides involved a clutch pop somewhere along the way, so they cant be that bad :P I say try it, but if you are not confident you bike can take it, dont abuse it ;)

    Maybe this will help me wheelie my crf 250 L... Which for a n00b like me seems like an impossible task 😄

  • @jairo.cabello

    @jairo.cabello

    Жыл бұрын

    For the 250L you will need a bit more technique, and combine the clutch pop with compressing the suspension and moving your body rearwards in order to properly lift the front, at least in second gear! It's totally doable, but on such little power engine it takes a bit more of effort!

    You do the same thing with the clutch but you put your body in a different position (basically, instead of leaning forward, to lean back). This is a very very VERY basic way to explain this, but yeah... xD

    Teach standing. Feels weird for tall rider

  • @OFFroadOFFcourse

    @OFFroadOFFcourse

    Жыл бұрын

    Hey Robert! Tall riders struggle just as much as short riders to find bikes that fit them, but overall I think its a problem easier to solve for the big guys. Depending on how tall you are (or how small the bike is), usually just a change on the handlebar tilt, or a complete change of handlebar will fix your issues. Handlebar risers could be a good solution too. But overall, for a simple exercice like this, you dont need perfect ergos to do it right, so I would say you are also experiencing a bit of lack of training (or correct information about your body positioning). You should seek training from a professional, its totally worth it! And if you live somewhere close to Portugal, consider joining me for a "training tour" (or just the training) ;)
