With electric pool heating exploding in popularity as prices tumbled over the last 5 years, there are two ways to install pool heating - integrate the heater into your filtration system or set up heating separately to your filtration.
The advantages of setting up pool heating separately from your filtration are:
- Like your reverse cycle air-conditioning at home, pool heating is the most energy efficient when it can turn on and off to keep topping up the temperature when needed. If integrating with your filtration, your heating is limited to your filtration hours or your filtration and chlorinator will be running for random hours during the day and night leading to peaks and troughs in chlorine levels
- Ever touched the cold layer swimming in a river? This is called stratification and can occur with integrated heating. Setting up separately with separate suction and return points prevents this from occurring resulting in even heating through your pool and steady temperatures
