How to Plot a Novel Using Index Cards
Ойын-сауық
In this video, I'm going to talk about how to plot your novel using index cards. Note cards are my favourite tool for plotting, right next to Save the Cat. If you are struggling with plotting, this is the video for you. I'll talk about the different story beats, the tools that I use when plotting, and how I organize them once I have all of my scenes written out.

Do you use the Save the Cat beats? If not, tell me how you plot!!
I have been struggling with tens of index cards on my floor for the past 3 hours😫 Im so glad i found this video, it explains all the basics in just 8 minutes!!!!!!!!
"huge mess on my desk" literally only three items lol. thanks for the video.
I love this!! Also, PLEASE do a video on Save the Cat! I would love to know your thoughts!! I haven't done into the book yet myself, but I will be soon. This story board brought me so much satisfaction. All the organization! I love it!!!
What kinds of things go on the character's cards? How /where do you develop/capture the overall plot?
BROOK! I've always loved the idea of index cards but I've never been able to actually follow through with them. I've started writing them and then given up. But I feel like it might be good to try it with later drafts where I have a better idea of the scenes that will be staying, you know? I don't know! But this was great and I loved it and you and you're beautiful and I miss you. stay gold!🌻✌🏻
Love this video!! I’ve always been so interested by people who is plot boards story boards whatever we call these!! I use my notebook essentially in the same sort of way! I also loosely use save the cat

@@BrookWrites more like I think about writing, but I procrastinate horribly. I have a couple if ideas rattling around and this week I wrote down a few notes. I did NaNoWrimo a few years ago. You won’t find anyone with more books about writing, though. Lol. Good for you for doing this. I read your good reviews on Fiverr. Congrats!
I love the sticker color coding idea!

There was one time I left my window open and they blew all over the floor and I was like ok I gotta do something about this 😂
Yes! Someone who uses "The Board!" I started using one a few months ago, and my progress has greatly improved. Props for breaking apart a box. I bought a Trifold for the two I use.

@@BrookWrites Same. I started using it for a short film I was struggling with figuring out. It helped. My second short film I had upon it for three months, in that take I cracked the story, wrote my scenes list and even wrote the first draft. It was great. Now I have two. One for film and one for Novels.
Great idea! I need to try this. I love the shuffle around option.

Thanks so much for watching!! I’m glad it was helpful 😊
Given that what you have to tell is relevant, the rare subject of this video, plotting on paper, is of great value for people who run away sreaming from the likes of Scrivener and Campfire and, last but not least, your voice is pleasant to listen to, what do have to hide behind the music? I can’t find anything it adds positively other than additional effort of isolating your narration from its distracting effect. What you have to say is valuable and doesn't need “adornments”!
i was literally thinking about doing this the other day lol. thanks for the ideas!!
