The riff is in 7/4 NOT 6/4 like I incorrectly said on the video. Sorry about that! :-) ➤ Your FREE program towards better finger strength, coordination, and dexterity begins here: sixstringcorner.com/guitar-finger-gymnastics-v-4/ ➤ Get exclusive access to the TABs for this song: sixstringcorner.com/6-string-corner-guitar-tab-library/

@Ned Steinberger You could look at it as 3/4 - 4/4, to me the 7/4 feel is a more accurate way to put it.

@Ned Steinberger Yes, the familiar break is 7/4. the rest of the song is in 4/4
I was scared to even approach this song, knowing how complex Rush songs can be to learn, but this tutorial sets the bar for online education. Starting with the finished product then building it up in bite-size stages. Without a moment to spend, I'll try learn this one evening with a drink and a friend

I cannot imagine what it's like to be _that_ good at anything. Competency, proficiency can be a marvel to witness. Thank you for this.

This lesson was absolutely perfect for me. A quick visual without watching the band members floating all over the screen was all I needed to learn this. Under 2 minutes! Great! 👽✌️

@@TheSixStringCorner It's absolutely spot on. Sounds like you're using coil splitting on the PRS which is a good move because Alex was playing strats in those days. If I remember he was endorsing a brand called Signature that also came with EMGs passive Signature branded single coils. I think he also used their actives at the time like the SA set that Gilmour used to use. I thought it was a good move on Alex's part to change up his sound. He had this big, clear but strong strat tone. He'd use a gain boost for leads. He was also using Gallien Krueger solid states at that time. Rush was a band that had to change it up now and then to keep things fresh. The fans didn't always appreciate it, but looking back in retrospect many recognize that this was still a good creative era for the band, even though Alex dressed pretty and had a Flock of Seagulls hairdo.

@@angusorvid8840 you are spot on! To be honest, it wasn't my favorite era but there is still some good stuff he came up with. I used a Mesa profile on my Kemper. He did use Mesa's in the studio at that time. I have no idea if that was what he used on this song. However, it came out pretty good on my sound! And yes, I used the single coil tap on my PRS for this song

I hear ya! I'm glad my Kemper has a decent transpose feature so that I don't have to worry about it on Big Money. Time Stand Still is a little more straight forward...at least as far as Rush songs go!
Still quarantined. Thank you, Tony.

Man you rock! A little bit too gain, but still you sound quite incredibly right! Ill take that into account now, I am going to make a preset for this in my poor gt10. EDIT: I have a question for you, I dont know what guitar Alex used, but you know, there is a neck a bridge and all other pickup positions. What do you think he used for the recording? I have an ibanez 2 hums and a single, I saw the video and he is in some middle position, but you cant trust the video of course. So the question is, do you think he used the bridge pickup? I am in doubt now.

Thanks! I'm not 100% sure either but I know the sound changed live over the years. Middle or bridge/middle is probably where he is at. On my PRS with the single coil tap I am in the bridge p/u - but that is with the PRS
Effects? Chorus and dist with a small echo.

What effects did you dial in to get the tone of the song?
@TheSixStringCorner
4 жыл бұрын
Axess2084 for effects it was a Chorus CE2, a little delay and reverb, all from my Fractal FX8. For the instrumental section I added a little octaver to fill it out. Tube screamer provided the overdrive
