Finally a shout lesson

Yes! Keep it simple..contrary to popular convention, there's actually a "shout pocket". Build from the basic and layer on the ride and foot independence to add to the beat. Still one of my fav beats to practice once in a while.

Great tutorial man! As a black drummer who has mainly played in Hardcore Punk bands as an adult, it is very interesting seeing the gospel feel broken down. I have always heard this kind of gospel in my head and played in church when I was very young, so it has sunken into my playing in a way. I never knew exactly what to call this, and now I have found a ton of youtube videos. The main variation I like to play is sometimes called a D-Beat and features accents on the 'ands' if you look at Max Roach's drums unlimited drum solo, its basically that sped up. When you played it with right foot and hand on one and snare on two, that is the basic blast beat structure slowed down.

Hi man, don't know if you noticed this but there is a delay in the sound on this vid, well for me anyway. When you're hitting the snare I hear the bass drum and when you play the bass drum I hear the snare. I can get my head around it, but it is a little off-putting. Thanks for the trad tips man, they're really helping.

Yeah fills is unnecessary and I had to play shouting music tonight and bomed it cuz I taught myself and my church doesn’t have a keyboard player so I’m not used to playing with people but myself
