This video literally has it all. Subtle humour that's never destracting from the explanation, awesome helpful animations, all components of playing the game are very clearly depicted and the build up of explaining is done in a way where it's easy to grasp. This is such a good video i'm really impressed. It's exactly what i want in a boardgame explain video. Please never stop making videos and make more like this. I might be getting too excited over a boardgame tutorial video but fuck it, you've earned it. I hope you gain a lot more subscribers. I'm already recommending you to friends if they ask for suggestions.

@Kevin Milloy You can work in a board game cafe. You can work at a summer camp or community center. You can teach game design at the college or university level. You can work at or run an events company. You can work as a rep for a publisher. You can make KZread videos like i do (although it's not exactly a sustainable living).

@Kevin Milloy Fair question! I was employed at a small board game café / library. I started as a teacher and eventually served as the curator as well. Depending on the administration goals of any given board game café, the experience of teaching there can be either frustrating or wonderful. I was fortunate enough to work at a very play-focused establishment. We were a very close-knit group. I still hold onto a lot of relationships from that time, both customers and former co-workers. As our teacher hinted: I left because I wanted more financial security. These days I still take part in the industry, but only as a reviewer.

Thank you Ryan, the game deserves a video of this quality. The order in which you presented things was well chosen and the teaching time for the base rules is impressively short. Excellent attention to detail as well. I only realised I didn't know some of the smaller rules until I had to teach three completely green players two weeks ago(if only I had had this video then) and I was writing up a short teaching summary while skimming the rule book to make sure I wouldn't forget anything, and I've been playing the game for about a year now. I had no idea you could split up cult spades over multiple hexes, ditto for bonus action spades if you have any leftovers, didn't know you could return a priest from your board to your pool to move up one step on a cult track, etcetera. The only thing I think you missed was the 10-town limit, which until two weeks ago I thought would never be relevant anyway. Turns out it's not that unlikely in a 5-player game after all.

Terra Mystica is the hardest game I have ever tried to learn. I have still never won, but I wish I had watched this video before our first attempt. It was an utter disaster, 5 guys who had never played before spent 4 hours arguing over how to implement the rules. Setup alone took almost an hour. We didn't even finish it, we abandoned it 3/4 of the way through and it took months before it was back on the table. If you have never played this game before, this video should be mandatory viewing. On top of that, I would strongly recommend you only attempt the game if you have at least 1 person in your group who has played multiple times before, otherwise you may never end up appreciating it. It's a very good economic strategy game, but it takes half a dozen or more plays to get your head around it. The video is great, well done.

11:17 I'm confused. "If you're short spades with either of these abilities, you can pay worker cubes to top up to the number of spades you need; BUT if you pay worker cubes, you can't split the spades up into multiple terriforming actions." Isn't using the extra spade to terriform another space considered another terriforming action? And isn't terriforming the extra space part of "either of these abilities"? Also, second question, when you say "the single action that you take on your turn" 12:07, you mean literally I can only take one single action or do you mean I can take each action once per turn?

i’ve only played it once, but had a good time with it. The turn order track is a good addition that you can emulate for free in the base game. The new races were interesting... i played Riverwalkers, while my friend MT played one of the volcanic races. They’re unique because they don’t have a home terrain.

11:22 The mermaids can't transform the brown tile in their homeland with one spade. They need two for that. Should have used the forest tile for the example. 15:31 The updated rules forbid to place the spade -> 2 points round tile in the fifth or last position. (You pointed this out at the end of the video). 23:54 Darklings don't get 2 points for every spade, only for each spade that they got with a priest. 24:27 Giants can only transform a tile in their homeland, not in any other. 26:08 The Nomads sandstorm ability doesn't work on tiles that are adjacent because of a bridge. 26:44 The Fakirs stronghold gives a priest rather than the usual 2 power, it is as irregular as the mentioned stronghold incomes of the Chaos Magicians and Alchemists. Solid video, the markings and switching between the boards to highlight what you mean make this a useful tutorial.

Thanks for these minor corrections after the fact, but this is the kind of thing i was trying to avoid by soliciting feedback on the script weeks ago on BGG, where you yourself said "Skimmed through it and didn't found mayor flaws." i honestly appreciate the feedback, but i'd much prefer to hear it before i've produced the video, since there's nothing i can do to edit a KZread video once it's been published.

@@NightsAroundaTable The first two mistakes couldn't be found in the script, as they are purely visual. The others four were overlooked, but they aren't mayor. They don't misinform the watcher, don't give a wrong impression of the game and shouldn't lead to playing the game wrong. Just reading the class descriptions once in the rule book fix it (which is what every new player should to if they start the game). You can't expect people to proofread your work in their free time to find every tiny flaw for you. Reading the script is less engaging than watching the end result as well. Making a perfect video about a fairly complex board game with its many details, rules, exceptions. respectable amounts of errata and updates isn't easy. It would take more time than it may be worth it.

@@Exkalipoor i don't expect people to proofread my work in their free time to find every tiny flaw, but that can't possibly be your complaint, since you waited until after the video was published to use your free time to find every tiny flaw anyway! :) It would just have been more encouraging to hear these comment before i put in all the work, instead of after. (And believe me, it was a crazy amount of work!) Still, as you say, the issues you mentioned are minor. i don't know that i've ever played a rules-perfect game of Terra Mystica, and i doubt i ever will.
