I thought there was supposed to be two face up discard piles too?

You can do if you like! You won’t be going through them after discarding, so where you discard cards you’ve swapped or contraband you’ve not snuck through is up to you. Often we just put them in the box to save space and in the rare event we need to make a new draw pile, shuffle them back together after :)

@@boardgaimz what do you mean you don’t go tnrough them? The rulebook talks about having the two face up discard piles because when you draw cards you have the option of taking from either face up discard pile as you choose. And the cards you discard can go in either pile. This allows people to see what you are taking sometimes to have a better gauge if you may be lying or not. Instead of just randomness from the deck unless you choose that.

@@KMReviews Ah, are you reading the rules from the first edition game? In the second edition that bit is omitted - in the version we have at least !

@@boardgaimz the second edition. It’s on the setting up the game portion on the third page. They even have a picture. It specifically says to draw five cards into both piles and that both face up piles can be looked through by anyone at any time. Then on the next page when it talks about the market phase, it talks about after you choose your cards to discard, you seem aside and draw back up from either face up discard pile or the facedown deck in any order you choose, etc etc. there’s also a picture with an example on that page too

@@KMReviews The UK edition with the new artwork (the one that includes the expansion)? We've just gone and checked ours and there's nothing of the sort, how strange! It does have a diagram and an image in the first edition one however. Have checked around online too and it does seem to state this is a change in the second edition.
