Form of the Song
"She's Leaving Home" is one of the slower ballads from the 1967 record,
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, by The Beatles. The waltz song's lyrics were written by both Paul McCartney and John Lennon, sung by McCartney with harmonic back-up vocals provided by Lennon. This song, along with very few others, was a song in which no Beatles played the actual music.
The song was originally written on the piano by McCartney, and although it is more of a waltzy song, it translates to guitar chords. The video shows the strumming pattern necessary to match the sound that this song requires. The chords are few in number, but there are a couple uncommon chords to practice, especially the Bm/F# and A7sus4 chords.
Follow along to learn these chords and their structure, along with the strumming style.
"She's Leaving Home" uses the following song form:
* Intro
* Verse 1
* Chorus
* Verse 2
* Chorus
* Verse 3
* Chorus
* Short Outro

    Excelllent. No frills, no nonsense and beautifully conveyed. Thank you. This song resonates so much as I have recently had to accept that my daughter has grown up and gone her own way. This Beatles song is among my most loved. Thank again.

    Been listening to this song for fifty years and it never struck me that it was a waltz, but you're right, it's three quarter time. Good one.

    I agree with the last post ... first off, great job on this lesson ... but in the chorus at the 10th measure, at 4:37 in your lesson, you suggest A minor 7th, it should just be a C major fingering, just add the ring finger to the 3rd fret on the A string (it's actually the 5th fret because of the capo). Not trying to be picky, but you definitely need to use that C fingering there. Thanks, it's a great lesson.

    Sorry Johnny, I have to agree with pepper bass, there's a C in the bass decending while keeping the D shape.

    great video! But do you think for the chorus after playing the D" shape it should go to a C" the chord shape starting from the A string is (A)3 ,(D) 2 (G) open, (B) 3 , (E)open so a "C chord just with the pinky on the 3rd fret. do you think that fits as well?

    Why do chicks never just play the song to show they know it before they attempt to instruct how to play it ? Or they, talk talk, talk more than anything else. She's still talking about playing the song without playing the song as I type this. I give up & she never played the song...

    if you can' t follow how VERY clearly she explains and lays this ALL out...you'll never get it ! WOW. Whatta great job of explaining the different moves that take place. If you REALLY can't follow that super clear explanation, perhaps you'd be better off taking up photography!
