This is a good way to deprive newbies of the fun that comes in learning combat and dying cause you attacked in the wrong angle and didnt know that you can follow up with a push using spacebar. I mean, I first started in Apocalypse, thinking its the normal setting. I went in blind. My first few days is just me crouching near buildings, getting stuff, and getting chased by an unkillable horde walking in a snails pace. I died after I opened a bathroom with 3 zombies in it.

The good thing about PZ, it's so customizable that no matter what kind of zombie apocalypse you want, you can create it. You want Walking Dead style hordes of slow moving zombies that cut you off from escape? You got it. You want World War Z movie style super-massive hordes that sprint at full speed? You can get it! You want a mix! Easy peasy!

How to get gud: lower the difficulty

@@BxPanda7 i mean, on a lower difficulty allows players to familiarize with the mechanics, different weapons, different spawn points and different locations, where certain loot spawns, where certain tier loot spawns, etc. You also get some basic combat experience with minimal zombies

First time I learned shouting told my friends to use the button to shout without telling em near zombies. Destroyed our base and chased us till we all died 10/10 must use.

Also a tip for new players: Don't sprint unless you have to. You can outwalk hordes if you aren't tired, exerted or over encumbered. To train aiming, try and find a pump action shotgun as you can generally take out at least 15 zombies per load of the tube.

Agreed, anytime I make one thing easier, I make another thing harder. Right now, zombies are random in speed and navigation. (Sprinters are the things of literal nightmares) and then the sprinter that runs through the door cause it can open it only immersifies it more.

for some going in at max difficulty is the wave but many new players i've spoken to say the default difficulty settings still are too frustrating, and they can't make it far in. i think both ways of learning are valid but for most, going this method will let them enjoy the game more and learn the mechanics without getting burnt out

@@BiggestBaddestBeaver i learned it on highest too but it was frustrating, i wouldnt be any worse of a player if i just made the options like you showed for the first few times especially the XP boost and zed amount. I died way too much to actually have fun back then. So whenever a newbie asks for tips i always say low zombie pop and higher XP gain

Don't be afraid to use mods, whether they make the game easier or harder, whether they're quality of life or add in a ton of new content. There's no wrong way to play the game as long as you're having fun, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

The antidote saved me many times Sometimes I use it to sneak by a horde of zombies since it has a buff that nullifies your scent to zombies An antidote is decently hard to come by so use it in the most dangerous situations

It's a mod. I'm actaully not a fan of the antidote. The whole point of zomboid is that you will eventually die. If your afraid of a bit killing you then wear good clothes and choose thick skin. That's just me though, you do you of course!

I was nervous yesterday too and still am a bit. The only thing I changed is infinite durability because wtf a crowbar does not break man. Its just annoying. Now I meleebash everyone You just have to learn distance management and stay cool

Id say turn off infection is a pretty good starter tip as well. One could say its part of the game, but as youre still learning the ropes with the combat of the game its pretty annoying to be game over by one mistake. As well as the fact the game is still plenty dangerous without the certainty of turning undead everytime you take damage. Besides you can roleplay that youre the protagonist thats immune 😉

If you wanna roleplay, just set infection mode to "everyone's infected" and turn off infection lethality. Now you're fighting Walking Dead zombies: you're already infected but don't turn until you die to something.

Honestly good advice. I've been playing for years and this is the exact advice I give. Start low zombie, my friend I was teaching soon got the basics, and grew bored with the low zombies and wanted more, so we slowly increased the difficulty to something we were both comfortable with.

1) Start in a sity with the biggest population to meet more zombies(cos you're new). 2) Get scared by a zombie in your first time. 3) Get a Knife from the kitchen table and go upstairs. 4) Barricade second floor with TV set by placing in on a table, you saw on YT Shorts by _Recommendations._ 5) Get bored what zombies isn't going upstairs, but still denying to get out of the house. 6) Find an Alarm Clock and set it to bell at night(because you doesn't know what AM and PM is) 7) Find out, what you can't disable that stupid Alarm at time, so a horde of zombies is all over your house. You hear the zombies already breaking your *SaFe BaRrIcAdEs* 8) Jump off from the second floor and break your leg. 9) Get to the next house as fast as possible. Jump through the closed window and cut your chest with glass. 10) Die out of infection, because you teared up all of your clothes for facric sheets but realize that you doesn't know how to make/use bandages out of them. That was exactly how I managed to die in my first gameplay. In my second, I got extremely paranoid of everything and only once in 2-3 days was going out on reconnaissance of next house in front of mine(just to find some food), and that way I was surviving till 7-9 day like that. Eventually I got bored, so deleted the game. *._.* I want to download it again, since I'm watching a whole bunch of tutorials before even starting any game, I guess I should give it a shot, dying again and again till I get some good experience myself. But, I don't own a good Laptop/PC to play(I mean, I do have a Laptop, but it's not mine, still I have my own Steam account to play games). Personally, I would like an addition of Humans, and random encounters with them. Bandits, Random survivors, Saviours, Police, Military(will kill you on sight), Injured humans(by the environment or by zombies) and etc. Maybe an Editor of Humans, to make Special ones walking in your world, with their own personality, will they trust you, what's their weapons and etc. And sorry for English! I'll work on it, then I get rid of my current problems.

Short, Sweet, and to the point. Absolutely love this short

If you have friends who play and are veterans at the game, definitely tag along with them. I was brand new and they put me through hell with their ways and the settings of the server, a lot of deaths, a lot of mistakes many risks I otherwise probably wouldn't have taken on my own were taken but I learned and their backing and knowledge got me comfortable to say I am good at the game, even solo. I'm now taking their place for my other friends who are new and showing them the way.

The surprise at the end of the tutorial is actually amazing. It really helps to set the tone for the rest of your time in the game. XD

It should be noted that in recent versions, heavier clothes (rightfully) lower your movement modifier, so the nimble maneuvering you were doing while relatively unprotected won't be available as much when heavily clothed and might be a problem around larger numbers if 'drag down' is enabled.

For backgrounds for new players I recommend the criminal one...what's it called again been forever since I used lol. It's the one that let's u just get garages of cars. That background is super strong early on cus there are cars everywhere. And ull have to many u can actually just wipe hoards with it and then clear the buildings the hordes were protecting. It struggles more during winter cus u likely won't have the necessary skills to make everything if u aren't grind the right skills out. But early on it makes the game super easy.

Started on hardest settings. 120 hours and about 30 characters later, still struggling to survive. Am I getting frustrated? Test Am I going to lower the difficulty? Hell no. That's why I'm playing PZ

Devs have said they will add bob/baldspot and Kate back in to the game eventually, probably when npcs come out. It was really cool though, they got rid of it because of the wonky ai and because there weren’t actual npcs in the game so it didn’t make sense to have them in the tutorial

I would've suggested that new player just go to sandbox and select the "initial infection" settings for their first few games. It increases the loot amount, increases vehicle quality and lowers the zombie count. It's a pretty relaxed experience for anyone who is new.

Just started playing again and I am hooked!

I always start in riverside. Everything you need is close and the zombie pops are very manageable

Good ol KZread knowing somehow that i just installed the game...

dont be afraid to play on easier difficulty at first. i played with no zombie respawns, and i died so often that it didnt ever matter. once i had my first character survive the helicopter event, i noticed how empty rosewood started to get. thats how i knew i was ready for apocalypse.

Nah the only setting that requires any changes for newbies would be saliva-only transmission, stops you from guessing.

That game is rough. I spent so many hours leveling my first character. Made it around 22 days in game before being killed by a Horde. The reason: I double tapped the E key to enter the car and he got in and back out instantly. The horde was around the car when he got out. I broke my space bar. The only other game that has made me rage that hard was For Honor. Great game regardless though.

The last video where I would expect to hear location in the background

In my opinion new players should spawn in riverside because of the gated community. Riverside also has better city services buildings.

Rosewood is always a tranquil spawn. Everytime I've spawned there in multiplayer, always got good loot and barely saw hordes and that's on a normal-high pop and pop multi

I also highly recommend turning multi-hit off if you want to get better at combat. It's the most balanced setting and gives things like spears real use. I think a crowbar being able to bludgeon through 3 zombies at once is insanely ridiculous lol. If you play with the setting and enjoy it all power to you, but I can't stand it

It's also pretty unrealistic to be able to hit one zombie and also hit the zombies next to it. In real life you can't multihit, at least not normally. Usually the person you swing at eats the majority of the hit. I suppose it's technically possible but it's not something to be counted on Also spears would be the best zombie apocalypse weapon for the same reasons it was the best melee weapon humans had

I like multi hit because my zombie Pops are a bit higher than most playthroughs, and it starts getting boring when your trying to clear a horde with melee and you can only hit and push one zombie at a time.

Set Xp multiplier to 5 is balanced for SP for me. i hate to grind all the skill to do something.

It’s truly not that bad, If you watch the first week of TV shows and bum rush a library and VHS store you can practically get level 4/5 on almost all relevant skills without even a single grind

@@_Aritus_ rush to find a library as soon as possible and take books for all the skills you need and then find the VHS store and take all the cassettes you need. Then find a random house with a TV and shut all the curtains and put tv volume at 1. Now stay inside and watch TV until life and living stops playing

You forgot the part about enabling multi hit! Another good tip I'd say is maybe turn off infections if you're new, I personally do because I find it a lot more fun, and honestly, its still difficult! Lastly, I'd say to add a challenge, make the loot extremely rare. Its still not incredibly difficult to find stuff, but it makes each thing feel so much better and valuable.

There's a big chance that you'll spawn at the police station too if you decide to start on rosewood.

I'll try these settings. I literally just started playing an hour ago and have died like 6 times, within 6 hours of start lol

1*Starts a playthrough 2*Spawn in West Point 3*Grab a frying pan 4*Git gud

Honestly the most effective way to get better is by doing the apocalypse difficulty or similar repeatedly and picking up the tricks of dealing with less resources and more zombies. Playing on easy gets you better at the basics but you'll be marginally better when entering more difficult scenarios since your used to having resources readily available and zombies at a minimum

I couldn’t agree more, the same thing happened to me. I started off on a lower difficulty when I first started to play Pz but it just didn’t give me the experience to actually make it past day 20, and then I had to learn about hordes, when to pick some off. When to take your leave and let them disperse, I would say playing on a lower difficulty can definitely make the knowledge about the base game a lot better. The zombie factor is something that youll need to work around yourself, the sooner the better.

I really wanna emphasize the rosewood spawn. As long as you get inside the fire station to get some weapons and armor you’re set to loot the rest of rosewood

I also recommend changing the temperature to cold in the settings. Using heavy armor is less punitive this way.

Riverside is a decent start as well lots of houses to loot + the town center and u got a water source nearby where u can fish and gather tainted water that u can boil

YOU CANNOT HOP IN MY CAR

Another beginner tip: Set infection to saliva only. This removes the chances of catching the zombie virus from scratches or lacerations, leaving bites as the only thing you truly need to fear.

Play the tutorial! They would never flat-out lie to you!

(As long as you have a car), oh and West point also has a police station that is easy to find, a mechanics workshop, hardware stores, a grocery store, food market, and everything else for one to say that West point is a very underrated town to start in!

I had a world that I survived 3 weeks in until I got bit so I chopped my hand off and bleed out

A few things about firearms you should know if you're new: 1. You won't hit anything if you're starting at aim 0 unless you're using a shotgun 2. Shotguns are the best way to get aiming xp, I think the double barrel gives the best xp gains 3.Guns can attract zombies from up to 100 tiles, so only use them if you've got decent aiming/a shotgun, or a molotov/firebomb 4. Your accuracy is terrible if you have low-mid aiming and your panic moodle is high, so use beta blockers or take veteran occupation if you're going to try to train aim 5. Moving and shooting decreases accuracy, so if you can stand still and shoot safely, that should be taken into consideration
