Nice tutorial for something I will never use, ever ; ) ! Before this tutorial, I would have, hypothetically, tried to launch a game a game via Lutris, but I think it would probably not work as well. Of course, I wouldn't know, since I would never ever try anything like this, ever, obviously.

i play pirated games through lutris, literally is the same process that you do on windows when you pirate a game, except for the fact that you have even more options in lutris than in normal windows, and the best is that now lutris can use proton and proton ge officially so is even easier to pay all your pirated games lol

@@JohnLucasV I think they were just joking because in the Linux community there is a very old joke of Linux users not having a partner because they are too busy tinkering with the OS. Of course, I was absolutely not flexing, I don't consider having a partner a flex in any way really.

codec is probably that you chose regular proton rather than GE version.

ngl so far i just right clicked the executable and run it through the proton prefix of a game i finished already

It doesn't work on the flatpak version, because flatpak sandboxes the applications by default.

Huh? I use Flatpak Heroic and Bottles all the time. It works just fine. Granted, I always use SteamUnlocked so I don't need to install anything, and I always put stuff in ~/Games ~/Downloads or ~/Documents

I just use Lutris cuz that's what I've been using for the past couple of years since I've switched to Linux.

Is there a big difference when it comes to performance when gaming on Linux compared to windows?

Mostly u will get a performance boost because linux is lighter by its design

As far as I know is nearly the same, sometimes one is 5% or so better than the other depending on the game but is practically the same

Hello. So, I switched to Linux - Ubuntu recently and am now trying to play some games. I have followed this tutorial, but when i try to launch the game, it starts to load and then automatically gets closed. This issue also exists in Lutris. If anyone knows about this, then please let me know.

Usually the _funny_ games don’t have online support. The official steam games can be launched using directly steam with very quick and easy setting, you should look for “enabling proton on linux”. For Elden Ring you have “gold” support which means should work, you can look for “ProtonDB” and search for the games you’re interested in, protondb is a list of games with rates on how well they work on linux. I don’t know about the mod usage.

I'd recommend you get your games through legal mean only and definitely avoid websites like steam unlocked due to the fact that they distribute pirated games.

I think it shouldn’t be a problem as long as you have access to the exe, doesn’t matter if you installed it on windows or linux, is the same .exe still

In this case I think you should use Windows then. Depending on your setup, it also might be that you have something configured wrong on Linux.

Probally missing driver acceleration, depends on the distro.

Yeah, if you want the UNSTABLE lattest wine version, use wine-stagging (not recommended) Also make sure to add support for mono and gecko with packages: wine-mono and wine-gecko
