Holy schmoly! I thought you were impressive when you were demo'ing that modular stuff way back when. Little did I realize that you're an encapsulation of Mardi Gras history too. New Orleans has contributed so much to American music -- the drum kit was invented there, ragtime ruled, blues born, banjo invented... and Dixieland! Thanks Sweetwater for videos like these... this was worth a couple hundred in content alone, not to mention cred.
Every time I think Sweetwater can't get any better... something like this happens. They got the deals, the service, and the greasy chops! Thanks for the lesson Jacob!
Love this! Fortunately I grew up in NOLA during these musicians hey day❤
I‘m very happy That I found your Chanel. After beginning with General Blues and Boogie dive into the roots makes me smile.
The intro sounds like a mix of Blues and Gospel!
This style of teaching is perfect
The first impressive explaining of New Orleans piano. Well done!!! I do love it and looking forward to your tipps and advices playing this wonderful style of music. Greetings, Alex ( Germany )
This is great content, well researched and executed too! Would love to see more in the future.
I love that style of piano! I wish it was as easy as you make it look.
This gives me chills when I hear those licks that what we grew up on my maw maw has dementia and she hears that she sing and dances love it
Excellent. Ce mec a le groove inné... This young guy is born in the bayou so thats why he got this amazing groove
Man, I love New Orleans style piano!! Great playing young man, you did the Professor justice.
Thanks for the tip on the professor! Excellent and fun content, learned alot.
Smokin’ those 88’s.

Great. Thanks for the free lesson!
Great tutorial, thanks. And you have some serious chops going there!
I'm American/Mexican who grew up here and lived in México. I can hear the latin groove!! Great instructional post! I had Fats Domino records and always dug "The Killer" Jerry Lee Lewis piano style. I have heard Professor Longhair. Great explanation!!

Jon Cleary talks about this a lot about the commonalities between Cuban music and New Orleans and other Caribbean styles.
Excellent!
Wish I could learn it. Fun demo.

I Got Really Interested On New Orleans After Watching Watching The Originals,And Since I Play Piano I Wanted To Learn Jazz New Orleans Style
Killer piano! LOVE IT!!!!!!
Fabulous
Very nice
Good lesson. Thanks.
Excellent presentation my man! Love Professor Long hair! He is the reason I got into piano music. Listen to his last album Crawfish Fiesta! Best blues album in my opinion!! Can you do a lesson on Willie Fugal's Blues? Again great exposure to New Orleans Piano! Thank You. You should check out the music of Dr. John...
Loved this video, thanks so much. How can I improve playing left hand bass lines while melodying the right hand? I keep losing rhythm! :(
Thank you so much I was wondering how to get that New Orleans sound, very useful 👍
Great video. Would love to play piano.
Excellent
Awesome. You make me wanna practice. haha. Top five classic New Orleans jazz tunes?
🔥🔥🔥On all accounts! Very informative! Very entertaining!
lol this is great. Love your LSU swag
This is fantastic!! One suggestion, though. The camera cutting between different angles is a little jarring for learning. Once he starts explaining, it would be best to stick with the top down view so we can see the keys the whole time. It’s also hard to learn from a 3/4 view. Amazing tips and content, though.
Nice lesson. Love Professor Longhair. And, it may just be me but I swear Elvis Presley picked up some of his vocal phrasing/swagger from the Professor. :-)
Check out the Jon Cleary version as well
10:42 amen !! so true : blues, boogie, are so hard to teach or put in paper, beacause it's more a feeling :) Bravo for these words and thanks for this video !
Nice! I'm gonna send you some Fleur De Lis and a choupique.
Goodnight Love you
Professor longhair plays it so slick, I miss all what's goin on. What about the diminished chord in early new orleans jazz.
good vid

I am a sweetwater customer. Would you be able to share the chords for the song you played at the end. 19min40secs. This is really great, I am going to go to Mardi Gra hopefully next year.
❤
6:52 he gets down to business
1:53 One time through Tipitina 2:47 Broken octave thing 3:50 Really cool lick 4:20 One of the biggest things in New Orleans piano playing 5:40 Third stuff 6:51 Professor Longhair's lick to start the tune 8:15 Left hand 10:50 Triplets 11:05 Big Chief 15:49 All put together
You got Dat flavor BRAH get som 🍀‼️
In addition to the prof check out James Booker.
To all English-speaking people around the world: THATS how you pronounce "New Orleans" .... :-)
Great video. Please camera person, use the angle from above and not the side angle- impossible to tell what he his playing from side view. Would really help with the instructional portion of this
Would be more useful if there was a slow illustration of the finger motion.
@17.22 mins in sounds like the beginning from Ray Charles the mess around also
Nice explanation of these elements of Professor Longhair's style. I think you did a good job explaining the chords and chord changes and techniques. BTW, did you get to see Dr. John and Jon Cleary when you were learning piano?
Except it ain’t that easy 🤷♂️🤪 takes a lot of learning 😱🕺🎶👍
Raton Rouge baww
Great stuff... feedback- stop side view- stay with overhead view... slow down a bit:)
vocals sounds a bit like Zachary richard meets harry Connack jr
Are u by any chance the son of the Great Doctor?

13:00 this goes too fast for me man, can’t specify the notes/roll here in the right hand.
@drkosa

Same for 17:00. If you would implement 30 secs of a step by step dissection of a roll like that in slow motion, all of us can keep skipping back untill we own it! Besides that, thanks for the video. Love this sound!
Very good video, a few poor camera views meant some bits couldn't be seen
Sweetwater should sell the pianos you use in your videos at a premium above their street price, maybe you can autograph them. Great provenance...
Why do I hear so much Gershwin in longhairs piano?
No question you play great. However, the clip shouldn't be named, "How to Play...." Very hard to pick up on your fast moving hands and verbiage. You should have named the clip, "Watch me play"
Hate to say but your all over the place from this tune to that tune .So as a teaching aid of the style its pretty bad. As a teacher of music slow it way down and start with the basics. Alls this video does is show you off but does zilch to teach the style
