Yeah these are just some bad pieces from musketeer chess but thare is a version of this game online with many more interesting pieces. Like thare is a musketeer called the magician that makes all pieces around it "intangible" meaning your pieces and enemy peices can choose to pass through theam with any piece. It's pretty cool

Some of the descriptions of those moves are of the"giraffe", a fairy piece used in some chess puzzles. I like Capablanca's Chess, a Chancellor and an Archbishop played on a 10x8 board or a 10x10 board.

i prefer the variant with just the archbishop and chancellor. it is a lot more complicated, but that's what makes it fun, because it takes the players completely out of conventional theory. the archbishop in particular is really cool, because it can checkmate a king without any other supporting pieces.

Lizard Piece: It has 2 movement options: 1. Slides three squares horizontally or vertically then one square to the left or right(basically knight but it slides) 2. Jumps up to 5 spaces diagonally (discount bishop that jumps)

@@arrowghost My version of the cannon moves by 1 like a rook and captures without moving up to 4 squares like a rook. Also, the pieces from both teams surrounding the captured piece are removed from the board, except for the kings.

The switching tops makes me have ideas about a chess game where you have little guys atop castles or something. Maybe having the big ones colourless and little guys can take control of them

Ironcopper piece: It may slide up to 7 squares and jump 4 or 6 squares to the left, or jump 1, 3, 5 or 6 squares up, or take two knight moves in a row, or jump any number of squares down unless the piece is on a4, c7 or d1 in which it can only jump 1, 2 or 6 squares and slide 3, 4 or 7 squares, or jump 2 or 3 squares to the right. It may only capture when moving up or to the right , or by moving like a knight or when sliding exactly 5 squares to the left.

at this point, every piece should move like a knight, cause there's no point if only a few cant while the rest can

Is there any point to inter change the tops of the foreseeable spider, or is it just a decorative thing? Also it's nice to see Staunton Style variants of custom chess pieces. Most of them (Diplomat, Archbishop, Chancellor, etc.) are just in Disc form to my knowledge.

Some sets do switch the top colors of some units, typically the king, in order to help make them clearer and stand out more. So flipping the fortress/spider could be seen as a way to prevent them getting confused with the rook. But again this is mostly for aesthetics and clarity for some people.

Now the regular Knight must be feeling really left out seeing it's comrade getting such OP moves.

3:50 ah, yes. the neutral party. it can capure any pieces other than the kings, and cannot be captured, since it plays for both teams. if you were to capture it, might as well allow pieces to capture pieces of their own team.

Ah, but that is the beauty if it. Neutral pieces are controlled by a player only when one of their pieces could capture it that turn. So, if your bishop could take a neutral Fortress, that Fortress is under your command. However, when you move it to capture the enemy bishop, it is now in line of attack from your opponent's knight, so they control can move it now.

Yes, Knight+Queen is typically named the Amazon, but there are several variations that don't use that naming aesthetic, for whatever reason. "Dragon" is a common second name for it though, outside of Gygax's "Dragonchess" sets.

i.e.: if it is white with no top; it is black's, if it is black with no top; it is white's

Lets imagine a situation: a rook and a bishop are threatning to capture the queen that is defending the king. The queen has any musketeer behind her. Can the queen move (or capture) in that situation because there would instantly be a muskteer in her place?

So many of these pieces completely throw intuition out the window. I love me complexity but seeing "the fortress" made me really unhappy

The Reti opening is buffed when you have a musketeer behind the knight.

i have an idea for anonher chess variant. corpse chess. the rules are the same as normal chess, exept for these changes: pieces dont get captured, they die. if a piece dies, their corpse lays on the battlefield and that space cannot be occupied by other pieces. if a piece kills another piece, they will move to the space occupied by the corpse like normal, but cant go back after it leaves. this is the only exeption to the previous rule. whenever a piece kills another, they become invincible until they move, the only exeption being the king and the queen for obvious reasons. pieces also cant move through corpses, so walling off the king to a part of the board, just to capture him later is not possible. additional optional challenge: the corpspspspspsps could deteriorate over a certain number of turns, until they are just removed from the board.

Anyways, there's a huge issue with your variant: capturing pieces is always safe. In fact, there would almost certainly be forced mate in 3-5 moves for white, just bring out the queen and start capturing everything near the king
