I just returned to learning piano again after almost 40 years of quitting it. Aging makes you think a lot about your past decisions. I’m so glad I found this website and this teacher. Finally learning this piece is one of the greatest joys of my life. I can’t wait until I can finally play this. Beethoven is eternal.

I returned to the piano. Took lessons 60 years ago bought a very nice Roland FP-10 in December- taking private lessons- and what a wonderful (though tedious) process. Good for you. Let’s cheer each other 😊😊😊

What a wonderful video. As someone who is completely self taught, this is the one piece I can play reasonable well. As you demonstrate, it is best to learn this measure by measure and practice, practice practice! I would encourage anyone new to the piano to put in the effort and learn this pice. Once mastered it will impress anyone who listens and give you the confidence to move on the more difficult works. I'm glad you explain the double sharp question which took me ages to decipher when I first started learning this piece. I know it follows the rules of musical notation but it would make life a lot easier if the composer wrote the actual note. Beginners would then find it easier but then i'm sure Beethoven didn't write it music for the musically uneducated like me!

Lisa is a “teacher’s teacher”. Her love of Beethoven fills my room & mind every time she teaches. When will she be recognized as the national treasure she is? Without good music to hear, you might forget to listen to your own heartbeat. There’s no need to though. Listening to the wonderful Beethoven’s music is the equivalent to hearing a post-doctoral studies course inside your own brain. Your life is more joyful now from having heard it.

Moonlight Sonata 1st Movement is the first music piece and the only piece I can play with the piano. I just discovered this incredible video, after I have already learnt the whole piece. However, it may sound weird, but when I watched this video, it was the first time I realized the pianist's hands, fingers and fingertips could move in such a graceful and charming way, which made me fall in love with. My hands and fingers are still rigid while playing. I am wondering whether Lisa has the same tutorial for the 2nd movement and even the 3rd. I am now trying to learn the 2nd movement. Thank you so much. 42:24 Sheer appreciation here!

I play mostly by memory and my first successful attempt was Chopin's Prelude in E and the tutor has now graduated me to the Moonlight sonata. Again learning to play by memory. how difficult do you think that will be and do you think I can ever learn to play the third movement by memory?

As a child on my first lesson, my piano teacher asked what I hoped to be able to play in the first year, I said this, and he said "No." It sounds simple but it is deceptively complicated. He would have spent the entire year teaching me 1 thing alone so he made the right choice. Beethoven has more complexity and nuance in 4 bars here than I've managed to write in 20 years. Ever a shame we never get to meet such incredible people. My thanks for the video, good luck to all. You don't have to want to go to Carnegie hall, but you will never get anywhere if you don't practice. :)

Right?! It's very hard for me to play with both hands and the way she is teaching is helping me so much ♡ I'm playing very slowly but still lol. She is truly a gift ❤️
