How to play 'Master Of Puppets' by Metallica Guitar Solo Lesson pt2

Музыка

Hi guys! Welcome to lesson 57 pt2 of Learn That Solo! Today we look at how to play the second solo from 'Master Of Puppets' by Metallica.
This lesson covers Kirk's angry shred solo after the bridge section at 5:42. This solo was a nightmare for me growing up but the ideas are relatively easy to deal with slowly. You can build up the pace gradually, and in time this solo will be manageable.
Take care guys! Happy shredding!

Just incredible! I can't believe you play without a pick and manage to execute pinched harmonics with ease. It's not fair. Man, if I had your talent... I'd plan to take over the world someday, sort of. Nice lesson mate :-)

There's no such thing as talent. There is only practicing and having passion in playing guitar. That's what every legendary guitar player has/does.

the slide from 18 to 19 on the high e string near the end of the first half of the solo is actually kirk failing a pull of a moving the string over the edge of the fretboard. Ben Eller did a vid on it, weekly wankshop.

If anyone's struggling with the first section like I am, you can get away with hammer-ons, just hammer the 12-17-12 then 12-13-12, just picking once per string. Not quite the same, but it still sounds pretty accurate.

Thanks for this, I originally learned the start of kirks riff with 17p12.13.12.13.12, but now I guess I gotta relearn that bit as all picked notes instead of making it easier for myself, I could use the extra alternate picking practice anyway, I suck at it so bad :p

yo chris I wanted to point this out. in the end shred section after the "clumbsy part" kirk does not use triplets, he does something like this on the high e string --10-8-7-7-10-8-7-7 and he continues that pattern

Great lesson, but are you sure what you are doing from 6:59 is right? Cos many lessons show it as 10-8-7-7 instead of 10-8-7 (as shown by you). It is really hard to play the 10-8-7-7 pattern. Which one do you think is the one played by Kirk in the record?
