Guys, we can coffeelock this build. Warlock spell slots come back on a short rest. So with the no sleeping invocation you can just keep making short rests, getting Warlock spells, using sorcerer metamagic to break them down into metamagic points, and using them to make spell slots for your sorcerer spell slots. This can give you as many spell slots as you have the patience for!

Had this idea a couple days ago: All four characters in the Wizard of Oz. Dorothy with Toto as a beast master ranger, Cowardly Lion as a Leonin, Tin Man as a Warforged, and then there’s Scarecrow which is the difficult one. Maybe you can tackle this idea and make a video of the entire party.

The scarecrow could be a literal scarecrow that a Druid has used the spell awaken on. I think for all intents and purposes it would just be a human with vulnerability to fire so most DMs shouldn’t mind.

Wizard of Oz honestly portrays a D&D party pretty well. For instance, the scene with the poppy fields has Dorothy and Lion succumb to sleep, while Scarecrow and Tin-Man aren't affected because of their construct nature. However they both have unique weaknesses, with scarecrow being vulnerable to fire and tin-man being petrified by rain and rust. They have to use their overlapping skills to help each other and all have very different goals that conveniently line up

Damn dude this showed up at just the right time, I started playing a campaign where it was very funny that our party composition looked like the wizard of oz. We had the warforged for the tin man, a lizardfolk that fit the lion role, my bard girl who would be Dorothy, the fourth character was a very dumb goblin so he was kinda put in the scarecrow spot. (this composition was basically an accident we didn't plan on it) Too bad the lizardfolk and the warforged died in the first session, the very first combat (badly balanced) but an npc brought them back with reincarnate so now the lizardfolk is a gnome (depressed as heck about it) and the warforged is a tiefling (funny to watch him learn bodily functions)

Totally thought it was going to be School of Onomancy wizard, given that its whole thing is literally find out person's name and control them/kill them with it. But if you're no longer using defunct UAs for your builds then I guess there's no helping it. Too bad too; being a mythology and magic nerd I really liked the subclass because of its historical and real world ties.

This might be a fun one-shot evil NPC to throw at the characters. I am picturing a decently sized city, but not a large one and people are mysteriously dying once per day, people didn't notice at first, but over time a pattern was established that is to much to ignore. The players being adventures and having more than 100hp at the start of this quest (Wouldn't run it at low level because instant death for the party isn't fun) aren't subject to the 'quite death' prevailing the town, but as they investigate they find that the town guard/police have been compromised and that this unseen adversary is pulling the strings to have both the law and the cities criminals go after the party.

Jackie Chan from Jackie Chan advantures would be an interesting character to make assuming you build him around using the talismans

Talismans and improvised weapons

So one time I used suggestion in combination with silent image to make a Kobold behave, and appear to transform into a dragon who happens to be friendly to the party. After that we successfully turned all the Kobolds in the cave against their actual dragon overlord which we managed to kill the Bahumut liked our actions so much he turned that Kobold into an actual dragon as we then set up our main base there. Also, later on the dragon (gold btw) became a paladin of Bahumut which means we had the equivalent of a ancient gold dragon that had the powers of a 20th level devotion paladin on our side.

Since I knew that Light was a star student, I thought he was going to be an Order of Scribes Wizard (from the Unearthed Arcana), but since you were focusing more on his charisma, my next guess was going to be a College of Whispers Bard, never even considering the warlock (mainly because I'm a little iffy about playing warlocks since they only have four spell slots in total). But having him as a warlock makes a hell of a lot of sense with Ryuk as his patron. Also, we have our first warlock with a pact of the tome. I have a tortle warlock I want to make with an archfey patron and post of the tome, so I'm glad to know they get extra cantrips because those spells go quickly.

I wonder what you could do with a Sosuke Aizen(Bleach) build. It would cool to see.

I thought about stating light as a D&D character. I made him a fiend warlock because I felt they were more death-associated without being martial like the hexblade. I also made him an asimar because they get an invisible spirt guiding them like Ryuk, on top of all of the other thematic reasons.

Def expected him to be full mastermind rogue, and that the death note itself would just be a super op magic item

Never watched this show, not big into animu in general, but thanks to this I've seen the kana for "POTACHOP" more times than I care to count :P

I don't really have a good joke about Light being a half-orc, but I've never let that stop me before so let's go Pros: free intimidation and darkvision, better strength and a little extra con, relentless endurance lets you survive on your crazy low con. Plus half-orcs are hot. Cons: This build is all about mental stats, and half-orcs don't give you any boosts to that, and you lose out on a feat. Verdict: half-orcs are hot, play a half-orc Light

How about Swashbuckler Rogue 6/Shadow Sorcerer 14? Swashbucklers have the ability to always sneak attack if the target is within 5 feet. Shadow Sorcerers can cast Darkness with sorcery points and still see (sabotage lights), teleport 120feet as a bonus action in dim light/shadows (vent) and have enough spells to mimic other sabotages. You also don't die easily since imposters cannot be killed during the game and since you're a sorceror, you have high charisma for deception and persuasion. This pairs well with the rogue's expertise too.

I would have suggested just going full Warlock and taking the Metamagic Adept feat for the metamagic options. From my understanding, you might not even need to do that with some of the things coming in Tasha's...basically swapping out components of the spell, so it's writing the name in the book.

I think you could do another build of a kid that wields a notebook of ultimate power; Maxwell from Scribblenauts

Race doesnt matter. > reach 14th level, with Knowledge College > learn Contingency, Reincarnation, Magnificent Mansion and maybe Death Ward as you have Arcane Secrets > Continge Reincarnation on "your death" condition. Remember your race doesnt matter? Thats because it changes sometimes > Dont forget to brake the rules as Contingency only works with spells of "1 action" casting duration and Reincarnation needs to be casted for 1 hour > cast Magnificent Mansion on a wall of some medium vehicle, maybe an aerostat > you almost know how to build Doctor Who in D&D5e, the last thing you need is to multiclass into Artificer Artillerist 6 and get Evasive feat, so you can Run when necessary and cast both with Sonic instruments and Screwdiver.

A way to fix Light's range could be picking Summon Greater Demon at level 4. You can store it inside a Ring of Spell Storing and put the ring inside a random notebook or simply wear it while writing the names. By level 20 you should be able to summon multiple demons(preference being ones with invisibility) and then all you have to do is order them to kill the people whose names are written in the book by replicating the cause of death. If you fail a roll you can still charm the demon with one of the many charisma spells of this build and if the demon is already too far away you can just claim that Kira sent it to punish his enemies.
