I hope we get more of these with different villains for future sets, and hopefully a full standard playmat as well for the game mode

I have a good feeling about it, especially because of the numbering in the cards (Q1) but also for having a version name of the Illumineer’s Quest set (deep trouble). That would make sense with the oversized Ursula card as well. If I had to guess, we will be getting a new Quest every 4 sets. Fingers crossed. ^^ And I agree: I would love a dedicated Playmat for this, instead of the paper one. Might need to make a custom one for the time being. 👀

I think Deep Trouble is basically the season finale for the first major story arc. Set 5 will then start a new story arc; and I'd be very much surprised if that one did not end with an Illumineer's Quest as well. I only hope that Q2 will not just be the same game with a different boss. I'd prefer to face a noticeably different task the next time around.

@@InkbornHeroes. For the legendary cards given with each deck in the Deep Trouble, are they legal to be used in other decks for play? I didn't know if the ink swirl on the border was to just mark that it's from deep Trouble and not a natural pull of a foil legendary for resale purposes or if it's to show it's not allowed in competitive play because it's a guaranteed pull?

@@flyhigh6814Although it hasn’t been explicitly confirmed yet, we can’t see a reason why we wouldn’t be able to use it out of deep trouble, since it is just an alternative art. It is a similar comparison as using an enchanted in competitive deck.

at 4:22 Ursulas Contract and the ability Minor Stipulation is not a decision made by Ursula or the players, the card must be banished at the beginning of Ursulas turn. Or am i wrong?

Just a quick question. Is Ursula allowed to change up the order of the cards drawn ?. So when she draws 3+ cards. Does she need too reveal them in the order drawn. Or do they go to her hand where the ursula player gets too decide in with order the cards are going to get played ?

Every time you draw for Ursula, you place facedown in her hand. Once you’ve drawn all of the cards, you reveal them one by one, starting from the one on the top (i.e. the last one drawn). Since Ursula doesn’t need to be controlled by a player, this removes any need for decision making (and creates some randomness to help balance out the game). Hope that helps 😊

Question, if Ursula has an action card that she has enough ink for but cannot do the action. Does the card go back in her hand? Does it go into her inkwell?

Following the “do as much as you can” logic, every action in Ursula’s deck is always doable. So if she has ink to play it, the action would always take place, but sometimes it would simply do nothing. Hope that helps 😊

Can we use multiple abilities each turn ? Like draw 2 cards, and then use 2 more lore to ready or exert a character? Or is it you only get to use one ability each turn? And is the abilities per turn as a team or per player??

As a team, you can use each individual ability once per turn. So yes, if you wanted to use all three, you could. But only once per team.

Great Video! One question: if two players are playing and they both ink a card into their inkwell each turn, can they share ink? For example, on turn 3 I have 3 ink and the other player has 3 ink (6 ink total) so can we exert all 6 ink for me to play a 6 cost card in my hand?

Sadly not! Each player is still individual when it comes to ink usage and any effects saying “you” or “your”. It was a mistake we made when we first played for sure.

Great guide, my only remaining question is: what happens if Ursula draws cards during the player's turn (such as with a Whole New World or Floodborn Yzma)? Does she draw them face-down and then play all of them alongside her regular draws next turn?

Good question! The answer is yes. Any cards that Ursula draws (or in the example from the video of a card being returned to her hand), remain in her pile until her next turn.

Does Ursula's ink need to dry or can she just use her cards straight away as soon as she puts them down ?

It works a little different, but they can only be used the turn after they’re played (similar to Ink drying). For Ursula’s characters, they take their actions when resolving the row. This happens before the draw step of each turn. So characters played only resolve on their next turn.

Only the cards from Ursula’s Scenario Deck, with the gold backing. Everything from the two players’ decks are valid 😊

When I read the instructions, it sounds like Ursula (another ‘player’) should also draw a hand before we start (because it specifically says she doesn’t bother with Mulligan). I found this made it EXTREMELY difficult even on ‘normal’ mode. I then tried it as you did, with her not having an initial hand, and just doing the draw number toward the end of her turn. That seemed easier. Any thoughts on officially how this should work?

The official rules state: “Ursula takes the first turn. She isn’t one to sit around on her tentacles! Unlike in a standard game, she draws on her first turn.” In our game we were lucky because she ended up drawing high cost cards so they went to her ink. I believe that is the main intention to give her some ramp to use on her next turn.

I don't think that Ursula is supposed to count as a "player" in this regard. The rules sheet repeatedly mentions "The Players vs. Ursula". So, no, the phrase "each player draws cards" should probably not include Ursula. But then there is this one sentence: "An effect that refers to a player can be used on Ursula." I find it a little confusing that this is marked as a "Tip"; as if it was supposed to be self evident and they were only mentioning it to be on the safe side. I think this should be a full-fledged rule, because Ursula is not a player, but effects that target players can still affect her.

​@@MewShuFrom my understanding, no she doesn't. At the start of the game (after inital setup) she has no cards in her hand. Ursula always goes first and she draws on her first turn. In a 2 player game she would draw 2 cards on her first turn and by the end of Ursula's first turn those 2 cards should have been inked or played, making her hand empty again before her next turn

For 2 and 4 player games, yes. For 1 and 3 player goes, it goes up at 20.

Unless my cards are miss printed none of Ursula cards have reckless or gives reckless which I think makes it a bit to easy playing against it.

What happens if an ability would make Ursula discard a card from hand, when she has no hand for pretty much the entire game?

In that case, nothing. In the same way a player with no cards in their hand can’t discard. The only time discard is really a viable strategy is on the Extreme difficulty mode, where banished cards are return to her hand. Then discarding is one of the few ways to actually get rid of characters.

Out of all 6 LGS in my area, only 1 received an allocation of just 2 of these… ugh

I know it's a long shot for most people and not very convenient, but if there is a Disney Store in your area they should have everything available on launch day. I go to World of Disney at Disney Springs in FL and they have thousands upon thousands of products on launch day. They even had the 100 year anniversary set from floodborn

3:13 Slight inaccuracy here: You said: "If Ursula's characters must challenge, but can't, they do nothing." Actually, the rules sheet states: "If they can't quest and have Reckless, they challenge. [...] Otherwise, the character does nothing." So Ursula's characters will only ever challenge if they have Reckless (none of them do, but players could force it on them). If the players forbid a character from questing without giving them Reckless, the character will just stand around idly and not choose to attack.

As commented above, yes! 😅 If Ursula have multiple cards on her hand and these have a higher ink cost than what she currently has in her inkwell, these are automatically converted into ink. This is something that will likely happen in the first couple of turns, unless she draws a “0” cost card.

A good mechanic to work around the fact it’s computer controlled. At first I was confused how Ursula would work and thought an actual player would be needed to control Ursula like a GM for TTRPGs, but the auto ink rule, zero cost cards, and insta summon really took me off guard.

@@philipsharp9783 Hey! She doesn't start with any cards in hand. But, she's the first one to start, and the number of cards she draws is based on the number of players that are playing the game. That value also changes in specific milestones/lore numbers (also based on number of players).

To me this is the worst wave, so I’m glad they did something so cool with Illumineer’s Quest. Can’t wait for the next one, cause the bottom of the cards say “Q1”!

Really? May I ask why? This is my favorite wave so far other than first chapter. I think inklands has been my least favorite one. For me I just didn't like the characters available in inklands as much but I can't hate it too much because my favorite enchanted came in that set and by some miracle I got it really early on.

@@seankart4459 I don’t know. The new gameplay mechanics are certainly better than Inklands(I don’t really like locations or moving damage), so it’s just down to characters. In a vacuum they’re probably good, but I prefer variety in the sets, so getting one new franchise isn’t a great sign. I will say that Inklands definitely had better enchanteds, I mean that Chernabog alone is amazing. It’s fine, just not great.

My money’s on Hades for the next quest, due to flavor text in this set. And I’d be totally up for fighting him in a quest style
