Apart from the fundamental error not showing the terrain tiles face up it's still a very good explanation. I have the kickstarter that adds some nice expansions incl solo mode that works well and some upgraded components.

Can you slide a single square directly off the board to claim what is on it? Or do you need to use other blocks to push them off?

Kyle here - if memory serves, there's nothing stopping you from pushing just one square right off the edge :)
