    Another fantastic rules teach from you Ryan. This is such a great game but hard to get to the table as people can be put off by the amount of rules, none of which are difficult, there’s just lots of them. But you’ve made it clear, with your script, and excellent animations (that must take forever). I urge anyone to give it a go if you’ve not tried it. Once you get it, its mechanics are just like many others, but there’s just a few more of them, making for a great game, that looks stunning on the table. I love the cyclical economy of the guilds, it’s genius. Many thanks for this video Ryan, it’s a brilliant piece of work. (I do love Odd Birds own rules video as the delivery gives great theme to the game, but it’s not nearly as detailed as Ryan’s, which is now my go to suggestion for anyone wanting to learn Feudum)

    I want to love this game. And man, have we tried. The game is just visually stunning, and wildly complex and strategic, it's also unfathomably compicated. Our group has played this game, maybe three times over the last five years. Once with two people, and a couple more times with three. No time did the game take less than nine hours to play, and each time we still got some rules wrong. We've had faster games of Twilight Imperium or Arkham Horror with more people take half the time with far less issues in rule breaking or sequencing. I refuse to let this game go, we're going to keep trying it every other year, I love looking at it, but I hate setting it up and subequently having everyone take a certification course prior to playing.

    Before Feudum, I felt that Arkham Horror can be a bit difficult. After getting Feudum, Arkham seems like a kids' game 🤣 I think the secret of success with Feudum is to try and play it more often. I did the same thing as you, literally played it maybe 3 times in 5 years. It gets easier with every game, but we still need to read the rules and watch a video again because we don't remember much. I'm sure it would be easy if we tried maybe 2 times in a month, but yeah, "having everyone take a certification course prior to playing" is pretty accurate.

  • @CoryFleury

    Nine hours??? I don't even know how that's possible. Our first game was three players, and with teach, it couldn't have been much more than 3. It is definitely a super heavy game, but I wonder if you mixed up a rule somewhere that drives end game?

  • @OHCLunasea

    @OHCLunasea

    Ай бұрын

    @@CoryFleury Wasn't so much of mixing up rules, but more of having to research every rule as we played to make sure we processed something correctly (like the wild world of guild actions). Plus stopping to watch a youtube video frequently to see if what we interpreted is accurate or not padded that time significantly. Pair down the time to "how much time was spent actually playing the game" sure might have been a lot closer to less than half the time, but the overal session for the game with all of the other stuff thrown in, yeah it was a whole day affair. Our group is also very hypercritical of processing and playing as written, and when there is any ambiguity as a result of "room for interpretation" we nosedive into discussing and debating what those interpretations are so that there is no confusion in actual play. And while I can't remember if there was a lot of instances of that with Feudum, there was a lot of rules to make sure there was a consensus of understanding on.

    Great video, but one rule clarification: when playing the Harvest card, you don't get to draw more for every farm you own, but for every ADDITIONAL farm you own. The initial farm doesn't count here since it's "used" to do the basic Harvest.

    Hi Ryan, great vids as usual. I think there's another rules error at the end of the Harvest Action. Around 17:10 you imply that if you have a farmer on the board, you harvest the whole thing by "peaking and choosing" every good but you actually draw everyhing "blind/randomly" and then, from those 10 you drew randomly, you choose what you want (the takeback). From the rules: "If you have a Farmer pawn in play, >>you may visibly choose your favors AFTER RANDOMLY drawing the total harvest

    You treat the three barrels as fixed - ie: the first barrel is always the left one, etc. So it looked like from your video that if all players already had one barrel full and you invented one barrel then no one would receive anything. However, per the rules that would mean everyone filled up their second barrel. @@NightsAroundaTable

    UGH I want to like this game so badly for it's beauty alone. However as someone with early onset Alzheimer's, there is no way I could remember the rules for this game even if playing it more than once a month. If only it were more intuitive and you didn't have to constantly look things up just to play a turn, because "you can't do this until you do that or unless you've done this" is just not very fun. I'd be willing to try it if there were an advanced player to remind me of things on my turn but I can't see owning it. I made my husband watch this video and he said it felt like a more advanced "take that" version of Hansa Teutonica, except that actually is intuitive. What this game needs is a simpler, shorter, express version. Heavy games for the sake of heaviness just aren't as exciting to get to the table when you can fit in several other great games in its place.
