This was the way that Mennonites could vent their repressed violent intentions! I always found it funny that this was a Mennonite classique, seeing as they are pacifists....

I'm in my 50's and I've been playing Dutch Blitz for as long as I can remember. Our family loves this game and we probably play 2-3 times a month. The expansion pack was a great addition though I wish it would have been different symbols on the back for easier sorting. We do not count out cards for points, and don't track overall winners, first one to clear the pile of 10 wins the round. Also...we shuffle, and pass left for a round, and play (no shuffling once passed left), just lay out the cards. Then, shuffle, pass right, then 3rd round, 'hold' so you're playing your own shuffled deck.

Something that wasn't mentioned in this video, is that if everyone playing is stuck and cannot move, then take the top card of your "wood pile" and place it at the bottom of your deck. Then continue playing like normal!

can you stack a card from your post pile onto another card from your post pile? also lets say you only have one card left in your blitz pile and you free up one of the spots on your post pile, are you required to fill the open post pile spot or can you refrain from doing so in order to keep the game going and hopefully get more points in the shared dutch pile area

I grew up playing Nertz which a friend who plays Dutch Blitz told me it's similar. It is, but I'm sticking with Nertz. Not only am I experienced with Nertz, but you only need a different deck of cards for each player and you can go as high of a player number as you have the space and decks of cards for... no expansion pack needed, etc

  • @dutchblitz

Hello Kristof, If that is how it shuffles out legitimately, then the hand can begin. You may want to make sure everyone is properly shuffling their respective decks. We occasionally have to shuffle each others' decks to assure a proper randomness. We take our DB very seriously! Hope this helps.

I have a question about the cards in your hand that I couldn't find in the instructions. So your counting off the cards in your hand in groups of 3. But what happens if the last cards in your hand are a group of 2 or even just 1. Do you flip it and play it? Or do you move the remaining cards back to the front of wood pile and continue to count in groups of 3?

All the babes wrenched from their mothers breast and the multifarious family's torn asunder seems like a small price to pay, in hindsight, for this great card game!
