One of the most influential jazz guitar players in the history of jazz guitar is without a doubt George Benson. His expresiveness, timing, technique, sound and just plain cool way of navigating chord changes is often beyond belief.
In this 4-part series I will take a look at an essential part of Benson's playing: blues licks!
Part 2 & 4 of this series will be exclusively for Patreon subscribers: / christiaanvanhemert

    Thanks!

    Novice question here. When you're soloing through the changes and not using the transcribed bluesy phrases, what mode/scale are you using. For example in the opening 0.48 through 1:05. Thanks, this is great!

  • @ChristiaanvanHemert

    @ChristiaanvanHemert

    Thanks! I actually don't know any mode or scale. I have never practiced any of that. I just programmed my hands (and my ears) to play certain phrases off of chord tones. Go here for more info: kzread.info/dash/bejne/c36AsaiHYZWoeNo.html

    @@ChristiaanvanHemert Look how he isn't mentioned in so called guitar category polls but the ones who are are in awe of him like Steve Vai, Gambale, and all others ! Jm Hall remarked ,"I saw God after hearing George Benson live once"(rough paraphrase but the main ideal is a fact) I would think some are "the chosen ones" and that has nothing to do with the math of music rather the spirit of strong identities who do good things for humanity musically. GB didn't read and simply could hear enough to learn by ear fast! He has composed some very nice tunes also. Id think there is enough room for the truly inspired to be noted by those who are great! Great work as usual!
