You may be confusing new players by using the red die for running. Red die is for jump, black for running, and white for walking. You should be using the black die when you run. This is from the Battletech rule book and the rule book that is included with all of the box sets.

at 34:56, the Commando already had the Locust in its front firing arc, no need to torso twist. The rulebook that comes with A Game of Armored Combat shows the firing arc diagrams, the frontal arc is 120 degrees (so extending out straight off of the front facing hex and each adjacent hex to the side)

Thanks so much for the clarification! Please feel free to post any other issues. I myself am new to the game so I was not sure if there were any problems. But honestly thanks so much for taking the time! :)

Brand new after playing with battle tech toys in the 90s and Mechwarripr as well. 8 minutes in and I don’t feel like I’ve really learned a lot. It’s almost an hour long, so we’ll see.

Anyone know why they don't have rules differentiating standard biped😂designs and chicken walkers, and different body styles upright humanoid, squater mechs like bushwacker, crab, and "pod" mechs like marauder?

They do have optional rules for this via Quirks. Bushwacker has the Narrow Quirk if memory serves reflecting its squat profile. I dunno if they have anything for leg styles though as they’re functionally the same in most situations.

Fun to see that this game is still alive. Its format is however, is extremely outdated. Surprised they haven’t moved away from the huge character sheets, where you have to write with pencil to track damage etc to tokens, dials and color cards or other smart ways of tracking damage and status effect on models by now?

You can't just look at Battletech as a tabletop strategy wargame. In it's core it's a mech simulator. You have to manage heat, weapons and internal systems in some way, and I don't see how you can do it to the same level of granularity in any other way. There is Alpha Strike ruleset for more tabletop strategy feel.

And that’s the beauty of the game! Proxies are allowed and even encouraged, you can technically play the game for almost nothing, the rules are available online and so are maps to print, and you can use just about anything that fits into a hex for a token, so the only cost is in printing out the map.

No, it would not count against your roll if the only woods between you and the target is one that your mech is standing in.

The Beginner Box is a great entry point for newcomers, but if you're already familiar with tabletop wargames and want a more extensive experience, the BattleTech: A Game of Armored Combat or Clan Invasion boxes may be more appealing!
