You must be the poshest plasterers I have come across.Reminds me of the Harry Enfield sketches about the cultured scaffolders. Great job lads.

Sorry im new to plastering and learning as i go along on my own house. Will this crack where it meets the ceiling as your tape just butted into the corner or will it be ok? Cheers

The stronger more ridged the wall and media wall the less likely any movement / shrinkage cracks will appear. Some walls are fine but occasionally you may get a hair line cracks appear over time. A coat of paint is often enough to fill in a hair line crack. Alternatively a small bead of decorative caulking around the edges works very well and is good practice for any painter and decorator.

Overtime finish at ceiling line will go it's unavoidable with this kind of work as skimm only lays on 3mm thick and it will shrink slightly.. Also on board work stick clouts (plasterboard nails or staples in) when fixing beads as super glue can loosen especially if it gets wet. Been on the trowel many years and I can tell ya...never count ya chickens until it's painted and been up for a year. The true test of a plasterer is not what you do.. but how much repeat work ya get. All the best to you 🍻

Any alternative finish, such as mdf? Would it not give a more guaranteed smoother finish, than hoping the plasterboard plus skimming etc is done to that professional standard

You certainly could use mdf. In my opinion Plasterboarding and skimming is far superior in strength and finish, however you will need a professional plasterer that takes pride in his work to do a good job job 👍🏼

Why did you cut an angle on the end of the angle bead? Just interested… 🤓

The didn’t do it on every corner. I do it for a few reasons. It makes it less likely to catch another bead you already have on as only the bead itself touches the other. It makes it easier to cut - when you do a square cut, there’s always one side of that cut which is not quite 90 degrees and again that will catch on the inside of a reveal.

You will need to contact your local plasterer for a price. Plastering and rendering prices can vary quite significantly . This is due to the level of experience, types of skill sets mastered over the years, quality of materials used, type and quality of protection and even how the removal of waste is managed, and also what area you live in, to name a few.

He won't tell you bud 🤣🤣 no point in asking They never do.. every bloke on the trowel has a day rate they won't go below. Best thing to do is find a good plasterer and stick too em..be warned they won't be cheap.. but you will thank me later

Most plasterers are £250 and up. Personally I’d go in at £320 for this due to the awkwardness of it. Plus the boarding is usually shit. On this job I’d have foamed all the big gaps to prevent cracking down the line

Always mix plaster outdoors. Why bother covering everywhere up to then fill the room with dust?

I disagree. Mix as close to what you are skimming always. A bit of dust is far easier to clean up than a two bag mix all over a hallway kitchen or staircase after your bucket handle breaks . Oh happy days😅

@162tsb7 Never happened to me in 25 years. Prevention is better than cure when it comes to cleaning up mess from plastering. Always mix outdoors when possible.

Have you never heard of caulk? You can’t tape every single wall or ceiling join if you’re there for a wall as you’d soon be doing the whole room going off your logic. It’s common sense

@@NiktheEnglishGreekCypriotwhat are you talking about..he's saying they should've taped the ceiling joint, just cover the skrim with a little plaster and blend it in to prevent cracking..A hawk full of gear is hardly going around the room is it 🤦🤣

@@Drsteelhammer937 I know what he’s saying, re read what I said, if you believe that if you do a wall up to a ceiling, that you should tape and blend in to the ceiling, then going off your logic, then if you’re called in to skim a wall, then you should blend into the existing walls next to it, which is absurd, along with the ceiling, how the fuck do you think that makes sense
