    Could you create a shrub row out of them? That would be cool, seeing a hedge of azaleas that bloom at different times throughout the year.

    Yes, you can. I have a plan to go an Azalea garden that is close to me this spring. You will see them used in a ton of ways there.

    @@debrabray8855 I fertilize all of my shrubs in March. Just once a year. I don't tell people to fertilize when they plant, because they may be planting at a bad time to fertilize

    @@JimPutnam I planted 11 Encore Jewels 2 years ago. They have not filled out. The leaves a flowers are few. Tell me more a out fertilizing. What do you use?

    Several years ago , a local millionaire hired a college professor to landscape his house. The guy left the plants in the plastic pots when he planted them. You could see the tops of the pots sticking up above the ground. I've been a landscaper for 30+ years and have seen a lot of crazy things people do , but that beat them all.

    I bought some fashion azaleas on impulse. 7", dark green leaves, scarlet blooms. Got em to line my blegh-looking walkway. Thanks for this quick and easy tutorial. Hope my blooms are as nice as yours!

    Thanks for the helpful video! I thought it was hilarious that you showcased the Autumn Fire because today I was on the fence for about 10 minutes at the local nursery deciding on my fourth azalea color between Ember and Fire and ended up going with the former, not the latter. We bought four to replace some of our bottle brush that got nuked in the Texas freeze.

    Do you think it will handle the Texas sun? Worried about 110 degree heat but are thinking about doing the same - our bottle brush bit the dust too during the freeze

    I was just looking at the Autumn Embers Encore Azalea on an online shopping website and I decided to search KZread for some reviews on the plant. I came across your review of what sounds like it might be the same plant. I’m curious if this plant that you’ve reviewed is the same as the one with the name “embers” in its name? Either way, it sounds like they probably perform pretty similar. Thanks as always for your very detailed and thoughtful review.

    Hi ! Whats a good shrub // plant thats ideal for a front yard flowerbed on side of a porch. Something that will grow width not necessarily height too much. Im in the Georgia area. Thanks!

    That is actually his compost bin. I think he uses that bucket fill it. As neighbors go I have a good one. They garden and have a great dog. Usually, that is good sign😁. Thanks for watching.

    I'm doing a bed that has camellias and japanese Maples I planted last fall. Planning to add different types and sizes of encores. I'm debating also putting in a few crimson hino and the white versions too. Would like your thoughts. Should I just do all encores because of the evergreen and more flowering?

    I would do whatever you really like. I will say that Autumn Lily is my favorite white.

    In mid missouri my azalea had no blooms when planted 2 months ago and still hasn't bloomed what have I done wrong? Been watering daily and has good green color growing.

    how can i get my central texas alkaline soil where it will keep camelias, rhododendrons, and azaleas alive? i like the pine bark idea and setting them higher, but my alkaline soil just murders them the first day.

    Near the house for sure. They need some direct sun for sure. If you have a place with around 6 hours that would be ideal.

    So that's why my Encore didn't thrive last year I have it on the shade side of my house. Can I go ahead and transplant on the sunny side in my flowerbed now? I'm in zone 8b Hampton Va. Btw thanks for all your videos for this zone area.

    Hi Jim, What's wrong with having mulch mixed in the soil? I saw you replied to someone that mulch has bunch of wood. What negative effect can wood have in the soil? Thanks!

    It ties up nitrogen when it's buried and can yellow your plants. It corrects itself eventually though so no long term damage probably.

    I bought 5 azalea from my garden center and 2 encore azalea from Home Depot. Wish all of them were Encore Azalea, because only the Encore Azalea are thriving, growing, and blooming, while the other azalea are just branchy with leaves and little change and no blooms...

    Jim, if you are putting soil conditioner mixed with the soil you took out of the hole (which is pine bark) why are you saying not to get the mulch in the hole? it's the same thing!

    These encores are best in at least 6 hours of direct sun. More than other azaleas

    If they are watered but still wilting it is best to prune the tips of the branches. They can't get enough water because of the damage that was done to the roots when they were planted.

    Rhododendrons are going to be your friend. Azaleas are related,but less cold hardy.

    Isn't mulch actually just compost? So why not add to the hole to help the richness of the soil? Why buy expensive compost when mulch is very cheap?

    The wood in the mulch will rot if buried under soil. It needs air to break down.
