My name is Ciearra and I love to grow plants. My mission is to be able to grow and give away food and plants. As we learn more our homestead expands from more garden beds, raised beds to now chickens. Raising chickens has always been a hope of mine and now I actually live in an area where I can have them! Thank you so much for your support as we grow, learn and take homesteading head-on!
Happy Gardening!

You are wonderful to listen to and learn from. Thank you.
Thank you. I had no idea which way to place the bulb in the pot.

Thank you for the video
Your instructions on how to plant elephants ears is the best. I’ve watched other gardeners’ videos and now I’m worried about the elephant ears I’ve pot in March because they might have root rot. I’m a beginner gardener so I’m easily influenced and confused. 😂

Thank you so much! If your concerned then pull them out of the pot and check the roots. That's what I would do or allow the soil to fully dry out before watering again. It can be nerve wrecking trying to figure out what's wrong with our plants

Me too! First bulb, from big box store. Potted it almost two months ago and no sign of life! I will pull it out today and examine. A dozen caladiums planted at the same time are finally up and looking good. Great video.

Yup, it was upside down 😔. It has multiple "buds" and also some soft spots but I'm going to let it dry for awhile and replant, keeping it drier. May fail but now I'm determined to persist with elephant ears and get it right.
Very helpful. I've planted four elephant ears, two green, one Black Magic and one White Lava in pots. Hoping for a at least a couple to come up. Thanks for such detailed information.

First time grower here!! Planted it April 8th in a bucket from dollar tree and put in a couple of holes. Haven't seen anything so I started to dig it up and there's little white sprouts around 2 inches long coming from the side of it. Was in the process of mixing new potting soil for it cause I was going to give it more room but luckily I was listening to this video so I came back inside and coveted it up!! I'm in 8b. It's still freezing here at night. I can't stand it.

Awww yay!!!! Roots! It's still cold in 8b! I'm in zone 6 and we've had pretty warm nights for the last three weeks. By warm I mean temps above 46 degrees. Hopefully your nights warm up soon!
Thank you for sharing your process. I’m going to pick up more of these and try again. Last year’s heat burned mines to a crispy crisp.

You obviously know much more about elephant ears than I do, with that said - I live in central NC and have had ears for many years. I had no idea about the frost issue (bringing inside and returning in spring) and just left them in the ground. The leaves would wither and die in November, leaving only the root ball in the ground. After about the 2nd year, they started taking over the space and reproducing BIG TIME. They have been through multiple snow storms, many nights with freezing temps last year to about 15 degrees, the local ponds froze really solid, but the elephant ears always come back. Why didn't the low temps kill them? Every time I hear about removing before frost I have this question?
@TheThriftedPlanter
Ай бұрын
That’s a great question and insight. I didn’t realize that NC got that cold in the winter. I wonder if it has to do with how long your area stays cold. We dip into the negative temps and can stay there for days at a time. I’m not quite sure 🤷🏾♀️
@pamelamanning99

I'm guessing the frost doesn't go very deep down into the ground, iced-overed ponds notwithstanding.
I just found your channel and can’t wait to watch more videos. I bought a very large elephant ear bulb today. It looks like the largest one you planted. What size pot will you put it in when it goes outside? Larger than the one you’re using in this video? Thank you!
@TheThriftedPlanter

Hi!!! Yes it’ll be much bigger or I’ll plant it in ground if I have a space. I’m not sure how big my larger pots are but they are huge 🤣🤣
Can I plant a canna lily close to my super large pot with my elephant ear bulbs?
@TheThriftedPlanter
3 ай бұрын
Do you mean plant them in the same pot? If so then yes I do it all the time. You just want to make sure you use a big enough pot to account for the roots over the season.
If I place three bulbs in large pot ,should I plant them close together or separate?
@TheThriftedPlanter
Ай бұрын
Good Morning! I would give them a little space between each other just because the leaves will be fighting for space as they grow out.
im wondering where you got each of the different bulbs? can i find them all at walmart or on amazon? also did you start them all in a 1gallon pot like i see?
@TheThriftedPlanter
