How to plant blueberries at home
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This video shows how to plant blueberry bushes at home. Using 50% sphagnum peat moss, 25% mini pine bark nuggets and 25% compost. I show the blueberry bushes that I planted last year and the results of one year growth. I'm adding new blueberry bush varieties that serve as companions to the blueberry bushes I already have. I create a growing medium that blueberries grow extremely well in for Raised Garden Beds or containers gardens.

Thank you Kay. I see you have been consistent with your garden. Something you said in your getting to know you video kinda landed with me. One of my friends messaged me after watching one of my videos. "You have too much time on your hands".... It was the "people in my circle" statement. Thanks. That helped me focus on what matters to me at this stage in my life. It reminded me of why I am being a bit "Slef-ish" Listen to the last song on this video as it ends. I think you'll understand.

@@growingoutthebox Same, on healing journey, started in memory of my Father but now it is in memory of both my parents and a legacy for my children. When I can get out to my garden time is almost irrelevant, like painting with living plants. I have so much to still learn. Grateful I found you. :) God seems to meet me in the garden too when I pray, I can hear him a bit more clearly. I can feel heaven come closer and feel like my parents watching too, they’re with me in my hands and seeing what I see as I am their planting in this crazy world.

I normally don't comment on videos... but this was a excellent video. I have been watching a lot of blueberry videos lately where those are informational yours was inspiring. From music choices, to video transitions capturing the exact details needed at the right time with minimal worthless air. Again well done videos!!! Keep up the good fight!!! I just put in 5 bushes (2 varieties) I bought that are last year cuttings. Being northern climate varieties they came dormant no leaves and planted them back in March in peat moss pine bark and compost similar to your setup. Spring has sort of sprung here in northern Ohio and all 5 have budded out and looking good. Except we still have chilly nights down in the mid 30's-40's and day time highs of 45-55 and their leafs are a purple/red from the stresses of temp swings but otherwise are growing outward with their second row of leaf sets. I have another 7 bushes (last year cuttings) I just bought from Tractor Supply I came across last week that are in sad shape and were very dried out in the roots... they were 1/2 off so I brought them home and potted them as a rescue project of sorts but have little hope for them as their leafs (full size) which tells me they were green housed are droopy and yellowing and they haven't responded to being watered have them in a lighted warm 60-65 degree garage for now til the outside weather warms if any of them make it.

@@patricemcdee1587 Blueberries grow in very acidic soil. They need a pH of around 4.5 to 5.5. Kiwi prefer acidic soil but not to the extent of blueberries. Plant vines in well-drained soil with a pH between 5.0 to 6.5. and lots of organic matter like good compost. I would only use an all purpose balanced organic slow release fertilizer with low #s like a 2.2.2. Most important is that you have a male and female plant. Male flowers have a yellow center due to their pollen-bearing anthers. Female flowers are larger than male. The center pistil, which receives the yellow pollen is a bright white. I hope that helps.

@@growingoutthebox Is it okay to use Hollytone. I bought a big bag . If I use that can I still use the soil acidifier and cottonseed meal? I will fertilize when I see the new bud form in spring . When u say late summer do u mean September? I am new to gardening. Thank you🙏
Can I replace the peat moss for coco coir? Thanks for your videos!!
Thanks for the info. A new subscriber. I have 2 blueberries in 1 gallon pots i need to plant up. I dont have the room for that size container, so what is the smallest size container you reommend planting in & still get a decent harvest?

A 15 gallon container should be sufficient. Remember, the roots are shallow and closer to the top so wider is better than depth. Peat moss, compost and mini pine bark nuggets. And at least 3 inches of pine bark mulch. 👍🏽 You got this!

Where did you get the container..just started watching videos and they are amazing
Sharing years of experience. Thanks boss! I have 6 container blueberries growing. They're looking good. Should I give them a fertilizer boost as they start to ripen? Or let them be?

Water…. Fertilizer early spring and late summer. During fruiting a drink a day. On average 3 gallons per week. When fruiting I water everyday.

Winter they go into a dormant cycle depending on where you live but they will care for themselves and I enjoy the questions. Keeps me relevant on the topic.

Hey Tammy. @9:40 into the video I'm mixing it all together. It happened kinda fast because there is nothing magical about it. lol. But yeah, one of my favorite composts is black cow. You can purchase from any big box store It's like $6 a bag here in Georgia zone 8A. Sweetheart blueberry bush amzn.to/3pIuFHW

It's a timing thing but yes. To assure larger berries you need cross pollination and you want to prune.
