    I bought one of these and it was a waste. Plants are mini’s and only last for 3 months. I now use it to start plants in coconut fiber pots (Home Depot, couple bucks for a bunch) and transplant them after they are big enough to transplant into pots. Save your money. Not worth a couple hundred bucks for a 12 plant system. Once your basil is established, you can keep it going forever with cuttings and let them root in water. Basil cuttings are faster to root than rabbits and I am not referring to them eating the plants. 🤷‍♂️

    I bought my mother a very similar system... If you are thinking of growing hearty or mass food like tomatoes or lettuce, forget about it.... You'll grow for two months and only get a couple meals worth of yield, at best. These are mostly just a novelty since there's so little return. If you are going to do it, you'd be better off just using this type of system strictly for herbs and aromatics. You'll get more 'bang for your buck' and it'll last longer.

    This is basically sponsored content. If you don't like it, convince Congress to increase funding for PBS and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Otherwise, shows are forced into this in order to continue paying the bills. Maybe traditional PBS shows should open up to Patreon too. I'd give askTOH a buck a month if it contributed towards preventing lazy shilling. (And I'd spend A LOT more than that to get new seasons of shows like The Woodwright's Shop and New Yankee Workshop)

    Hydro won’t do well with tap water and no ph meter etc. need RO system and a PH, EC meter. Pythium loves to grow in these also. Basically a recipe for disaster for the layman. Grow in soil in south facing window sill and it’s cheaper and easier. Basil is so easy to grow. Same with lettuce etc.

    There aren't many ways to cheat nature.. If the soil freezes, the plants will probably have a hard time. When you get snow, you might look for any place it doesn't fall. I have a basement air vent that can keep a few plants alive over winter.

    Yeah, I'd say that's definitely an outdoor only tree. There are 20 species of pines that can be grown for food, so if you have a back yard, it should not be too difficult to grow a tree or two.

  • @verdatum

    @verdatum

    @@scotttovey I'm under the impression that such trees are slow to producing seeds, and that the process of extracting those seeds is labor intensive, hence the cost. One of these days I'm going to try substituting shelled sunflower seeds. Those are cheap (or super easy to grow) and the taste is somewhat similar to pine nuts.

    @@justablankcomment3721 It is all about God our creator and His only begotten Son Jesus Christ. Whether you believe that God is. Whether you believe that God is not. Both beliefs are religion. Yours is the religion of no god, a very weak and troubling place to stand. Psalms:96:5: For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens. The other is a belief that God is and that He is active in the daily lives of man. He has promised eternal life and has appointed a day when He shall fulfill that promise to them that believe on the name of His only begotten Son the Lord Jesus Christ. Job:12:23: He increaseth the nations, and destroyeth them: he enlargeth the nations, and straiteneth them again. Psalms 47:2: For the LORD most high is terrible; he is a great King over all the earth. Ownership of the land belongs to God and He gives it to whomsoever He will. Psalms 50:10: For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. 1Corinthians 10:26: For the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof. Look at the state of the nations and the state of the earth. All these things were prophesied in the Bible 1938 years ago and beyond. Only a true, living, eternal and omnipotent God could declare what is going to happen, and then bring it to pass.
