Our facility relies heavily on US guided line insertion and I am fortunate enough to use it many times during my shift. Your content has been fantastic at making me even more proficient in my practice. For difficult peripheral access and using Pythagorean’s theorem, can almost guarantee 1st attempt success which is not only better for the patient in the long term but for overall patency of the line during procedure. The OR loves when we can assure 1.5 inch of large bore catheter in the vessel and it’s brilliant for MTP. Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge with us.

Very informative. I’m a central line sim instructor but focus mostly on IJ cannulation. I remember the days of blind subclavian access and have done a few under ultrasound but not recently so this review is great. Will share with colleagues.

Hi, do you have to puncture in the middle of the probe during in-plane technique (as in the short axis) as long as you get the full lenght long axis view of the vessel?

@@CriticalCareNow maybe you can read these? doi.org/10.4038 /slja.v26i1.8269 and doi:10.1093/bja/aet202. Both study consistently find SC approach is faster and Byon et al also find that the SC approach decreases the incidence of guidewire misplacement. But actually it's just my personal preference. Knowing pleura is really close scares me a lot and make my hands tremble hahaha..
