How To Pitch Faster While Maintaining/Improving Accuracy!

Спорт

NY Mets Pitching Coach Hector Berrios swings by to share with us how to pitch faster while maintaining/improving pitching accuracy, command, control. We dive deep into the pitching mechanics and pitching drills he uses with the numerous pro players that he trains who can pitch over 100 mph and still command the baseball. Now-a-days it seems everyone is focused on pitching velocity development and pitching control gets left behind. But why can’t we work on both simultaneously? Here’s exactly how Hector does it!

    Thank you, Hector! I was a pitcher growing up and I learned to pitch exactly as you described. I never had arm issues and continue to throw hard in my fifties. I have a son in high school who is just beginning to play. I have taught him to throw just as you described for the same reasons. I am going to send him this video to watch to reaffirm that he is on the right path. Great content!

    After watching videos of modern pitchers, eg. Tim Lincecum, he does the same hyper extension leg that you "promote" I think that's what led to his short career. I agree with Hector and being more bent. Watching Tim pitch slow motion, really made Hector's point stand out more. Hyper extending is never something we want to "volunteer' our bodies in. Great video though.

    I agree with Hector on everything except for the front leg also. The hardest throwers get the front leg braced the best. That is like really good breaks. That being said, the most important thing is to be pushing on the brake when you throw and not collapsing on the front leg when your throw.

    I was wondering how much velocity you think is leaked in a typical highschool pitcher. I know that better mechanics helps improve velocity and that improving strength is important however if someone maintained strength, then how much velocity could they add just by improving mechanics.

  • @YouGoPro

    @YouGoPro

    3 жыл бұрын

    Depends on how many/how big the leaks are. I’m pretty confident in saying that almost every high school pitcher has 3-5 mph they could get out just by fixing a few things in a quick session. But the real magic is staying consistent with the “plugs” and continuing to build on top of that. The best I’ve done personally is 11 mph in one hour but this guy was doing ALOT wrong. It then took us a month to continue to maintain that gain. He ended up throwing 16 mph faster consistently than he did in only 3 months prior. But that is not typical. I’d be confident to say I could get at least 3 mph out of every high school aged pitcher given a short amount of one on one time.

    I also disagree with the point about him saying front leg bracing is bad. Front leg bracing is normal, healthy, and lots of times needed if you want max velo. Think about hitters. How many hitters do you see that hammer the ball consistently on a soft front leg? Very few if any.

  • @hectorberrios3411

    @hectorberrios3411

    2 жыл бұрын

    Please do not misinterpret front knee bracing that I explained. Not every pitcher does it, even in this day and age. The intention is to give pitchers other alternatives that have been successful in great pitchers. Many are after velocity, but can’t function once on the mound, because they pigeonhole themselves on power. deGrom & Baur wouldn’t be the pitchers they are if it wasn’t for their ability to command power with finesse. Hope that can clear up any misunderstanding. If lead leg block works for you, I’m all for it.
